how is it configured in betaflight? does the FC compensate the rudders so it keeps the angle when increasing or decreasing throttle or is it more like "fly-by-wire"?

I used a cheap racerstar 2205 2300kv in the beginning and it felt underpowered on 5" and hot on a heavy 6" (but that is not a high quality motor), now I'm using a well cooled Tornado T2 2206-2600kv, while I think that one is too fast, it still returns cool after long runs on 3s / 5". Until now I was also running on Flycolor Raptor 30A ESC and it was fine.

Yes, perfect COG is important, but keep in mind that it is always better to have a nose-heavy wing than a tail-heavy one. I even saw some suggestions that it is easier for a beginner to fly a nose-heavy plane.

(20-Nov-2018, 04:34 AM)kaitylynn Wrote: Oh, another question...a silly one really, does it matter which way the prop spins?  Thinking I have props laying around, both CW and CCW.  I know that it has to be a prop that pushes.  Does CW/CCW make any difference as long as it pushes?
I used both CW and CCW rotation with no issues.
Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: DRC Aura, NOX5R, Minimalist 112 and drive a scrap RC car

It is not a betaflight FC.  There is no provision for connecting the board to a computer, so my only option for firmware updates or anything appear to be passthrough.  All mixing is doing through the radio.  I assume there is a gyro it uses to stabilize, not sure yet.

Wired in the basic flight controller and it would appear to be a self leveling gizmo. The servos responded to movement of the wing. Pretty cool! Have the ESC wired up and am going to install the motor once I figure put the standoffs. I do not want the motor "hard mounted" as at some point it may require replacement.

The R9 Slim is delayed, so have to decide whether to pull the R9 Mini from The Rover now, or hold off until the new one arrives. Have some time to figure it out...not too rushed. This has not turned out to be the three hour build that The Rover was Big Grin

Also received the new arms for The Rover and find they are for a 7"...and they fit...and so The Rover might grow a little and start sporting 7" props. Not sure how I feel about that yet.

Anyway, the wing is coming together and I am really feeling anxious to fly it. Soon!

You people are a bad influence! Bad Bad Bad I tell you! Just placed my order with Banggood for the S800 with a few 9g servos and a BrotherHobby R2 motor. Came in at just over $80 in total as all the items were promo deals. Now I just have to decide on electronics. No rush, I've got 'till April or May. But I'm sure I'll be asking questions......
Dude, where's my quad?

With regards to a 7" quad......I jumped from 5" to 7" and I have only flown it around the yard a few times at this point, but I find that it is much smoother and more relaxing to fly.  I really think you'll like it.

Now with regards to the wing.....I agree with RENOV8R...you (and others) are bad influence.  Bad Bad Bad!!!!  So far I have resisted the temptation, but the dark side beckons...........

Do it!  I was surprised how reasonably priced these can be built for, considering that most of us already have a lot of the parts needed like ESCs, props, fpv gear.  And flight times well over 30 minutes??? Whaaat???

I think that I will expand Rover's reach a bit and install the arms for 7". I will change the motors out for something a little higher quality than RacerStars.

If my arithmetic is anywhere near accurate, The Wing will cost under $100 for a decently spec'd craft. $45 for the kit. $12 for the RX. $12 for the motor. $6 for the servos. The FPV system is from The 5". For now, the 1500mah 4S pack will have to suffice.

From what little research I've done so far, that 1500mah pack should work great! I've decided to go with a FC and iNav for my setup (as most of you know by now, I tend to go a little overboard) so I've ordered these from BrainFPV

Will definietly be watching your results once your build is up and about.

I have been considering the Matek 411 and now there is even a review!!!

iNav seems like a pretty neat system for these aircraft Smile

Yes, lots of reasons for iNav and FC.  OSD, different flight modes and most importantly, iNav Auto-Launch. Never much liked the thought of flinging a craft like a frisbee that has spinning blades of death rotating a 50,000 RPM inches away from my face.
