Is there a difrence in usb to mico for conecting your drone to betaflight?
Is there a data cord and just a charging cord ?  I'm thinking I have just been using a charging cord to conect to the computer and Beta flight with my drone  or should I say " Not Connecting " .

 Thanks Fisher King

I use a charging cord as well...works for me. I think they are pretty much standardized. Different devices (charger to Phone, Computer to Quad) may use different sets of wires within the cord/connectors, but if you ring them out with a meter, I think you'll find all USB to micro cords are the same. At least that has been my experience. Yours may differ.

Hi. There are indeed different USB cables, some of them are only charger cables and you can't use them to connect to a computer. What you need is a data capable USB cable, which, if I am not wrong, has 4 wires inside instead of just 2 like the charger only cables. You can check them with a multimeter.
If your computer does detect that you are plugging in something, it means that you are using a data cable and the connecting issues are not related to the cable itself, may be related to the drivers.

Not a stupid question by any means. Like ssombra wrote, there are different USB cables. There are charging only, data cable and OTG cable. They all look the same and don't have any marking to distinguish what they are. Most likely, you will either have a charge only cable or data cable. ssombra method to use DMM to check all 4 wires is a great idea, but sometimes it is impossible with normal size probe to isolate each pin. if you don't have a DMM, open up device manager and plug in your FC. Something will pop up. That means you have a data cable. If nothing pops up, but there is power to the FC, then you have a charge cable. It is best to open device manager, because Windows doesn't always notify you when you plug something in. Especially after it has already loaded a driver for that device.

That's true, it is very hard to do it with a multimeter, it took me some time to check my cables until I found one data cable Smile. Never thought about using device manager, very simple and good idea!

Man! I grabbed my sons cable once and tried and tried again, only to find out that it was simply a charging cord. No data lines on it whatever. Tripped me up for a good 30 minutes

In a different forum, I can't recall the number of times someone swears that they have a data to be wrong after 2-3 pages of posts.

Yes, and this is after they complain endlessly about the poor quality of the hardware they are blaming their issues on.  Usually starts with "my flight controller is crap, don't buy this, etc

Lol. So many do blame the hardware. Then they blame drivers and the driver fixer. "Why doesn't impulserc driver fixer fix my driver?" Then blame Windows being crappy. Then you get other guys that don't have a clue about driver chiming in and ruin it even more.

On a side note, does anyone know why some people uses impulserc fixer every single time they try to connect to BFC. If the drivers were installed correctly, there should never be a need to reinstall everytime. I have 2 PCs and a Mac. All computers work with all FC.

So true. And a common one lately is "I've tried jumping the bootloader pads and it still won't connect" LOL I've never had to jump the bootloader pads or use the button
