AirBlade UAV Intrepid V2 3" Pro Build Log
#1
TL : DR ... It's my birthday. Big Grin   My quad got on fire.   Sad

I was gifted an AirBlade UAV Intrepid V2 3" Pro frame from a very cool RCG seller making up for a botched sale.  Far be it for me to defy fate and let this fine frame go unflown lol.  That and coinciding with my birthday ... well, it was meant to be!

If you've been following my build threads, you'll know I pretty much stick to the exact. same. parts.  So I won't go into too much detail on this build log.  You'll also know that I've been going nuts on the Tarsier 4K so this dual stack frame is perfect.  It is slightly bigger than my Gecko with 150mm MTM and noticeable smaller than my Acrobrat.  This would be my perfect in between!

The frame has detachable arms secured to the front and rear M3 spacers.  [Insert doom foreshadowing music here ...]   An M2 screw secures the middle.  (I cut my mounting screws to height.)

... oh that damn M2 screw lol ...

Since I am using the exact same components from my prior builds, I'll spare you the details.  I would note though that despite being longer than the Gecko, components are a tight fight.  A bit more spacing between the stacks would've gone a long way.

You can see the connector cables bunched up in the middle.  The Tarsier cable was not long enough to be flipped around.  What would have been helpful was if the FC cables were oriented differently or used pins.  It fit, but it's a very tight fit.

I went with some blinged out hardware ...

I designed some TPU parts to hold up the VTX antenna and secure the lipo cable at the same time.  Also made some covers for the rear of the camera plates where the sharp carbon fiber edges would otherwise rub uncomfortably against the lipo.  If you want these STL files, just let me know.

Bazinga!!!! LOLLLL

I did maiden it this morning and I was very concerned that some very slight play the way the camera cage hooks into the frame would cause jello.  Well I gotta say the footage was as solid as any of my other builds and this thing is really fun to fly.  As I would've guessed, it feels something in between to the Gecko and Acrobrat ...

... That video actually cut out from a crash.  A crash that would end up resulting in a completely charred FC stack ...   Cry

(to be continued)

Ok ...

So after that crash, everything seemed fine enough.  I flew the rest of that pack but didn't realize the Tarsier had stopped recording.  I had one more pack and everything really seemed perfectly fine I didn't give it a second thought.  I took off full tilt and maybe 3 seconds into flight, it just blacks out completely and suddenly.  I make my way to the crash site which wasn't too far away and could already smell "it" before I got there.  You know that smell!  Well something had def shorted ...

Something in the rear evidently ...

THAT #$%^#$%! SCREW!!!!!!!!

Brand spankin' shiny new Mamba F7 stack ... not so much.

I was runnin outta that park like an idiot carrying this lipo by the pigtail thinking it was about to explode LOL ...

The lipo did not explode lol and the cells are actually keeping balance.  Do you think it's still ok?

I do think my other components are still good.  I also really liked this frame and how it flew.  I had such a blast flying it.  I'll be replacing the Mamba stack.  I'd looked for an alternative but didn't find one with the features I liked or a name I trusted.  And of course, I'll either be using a nylon M2 screw or none at all.

We shall rebuild!!  LOL  Big Grin

That is tragic. I am pretty sure everything else should still work.

As for the lipo, I would take the outer wrap and do a visual inspection. Then put some new wrap over it. Likely still fully functional.

I got to speaking with Nguyen over at AirBlade UAV just to let him know about this potential issue. Turns out those blue plates were added by Diatone in a collaboration BNF. He also confirmed that the middle mounting is not really necessary much less the plates. So that's a 2g savings right there lol.

And to my surprise, the FC still connected to BF lol!!

Question ... can I paste in the DIFF into the CLI to capture things like vtx_lowpower_disarm changes I made?

Lastly, it looks like the lipo also survived. I only have like 8 lipos so every one counts lol. After cleaning it off, I didn't notice anything alarming. Not sure I'm brave enough to take it apart, but it did storage charge just fine.
