6, 7, or 8“

I’m looking for your experience with a 6, 7, or 8” drone... I am looking to do a Long Range build soon and I’ve seen success with 6 & 7” drones.

I’m wanting your first hand story about what you built and what you might have done differently.  I’m also looking for what made you choose the route you went.

I have 60A ESC, so I’m thinking this should be good for up to 8” build.  Also I run crossfire so I’m wanting to break my 2Km personal best.

Last, I want to know if you are running 5.8 or 2.4 for video.  How far out are you going w/it?

I have 7" Xing2806.5 and 9" BH2812 on iFlight
Huge prop area means you can carry much more.
The 7" rips crazy. But pretty short flight time. Bigger prop/motor doesnt guarantee longer flight time.

But, very light 1404 4" can do long range too.
I can do 10-12min on 4S 650mah flying 45kph.. almost 9km distance.

I took both FlySky and R9M 1.5km.. and 1.9km a few times, but video is by far weakest link.

7" are the most convenient large size mostly because of props. 8,9,10" are hard to come by locally for most people and the options are much fewer. Khrosis has some 10" drones maybe he'll chime in on the benefits of a larger rig.

Mostly everyone here flies with 5.8 video. Its a good match to the battery capacity and distance you'd normally achieve for typical long range flights in an open area and the easiest to work with. I use 2.4 occasionally, these can be a headache to work with.

Most wifi is using the 2.4 band and can make a very high noise floor. Near a city its can be saturated to the point its not worth bothering with. Antennas get pretty big too. Many countries have different frequency allocations though you may have better luck than I do.
When I'm in a good area for it, it does work very well though.
