4000mah 4S LiPo Under 120mm
#1
Hey guys,

Been doing a bit of reading up on here lately and people suggest atleast a 4000mah battery (4s) for a long range 7inch build.

However all the batteries I've seen are 144mm+ which would mean a 2cm over hang on both my iFlight XL7 frame & TBS Source One if I don't want to overhang the camera slot at the front.

I'm assuming the batteries I'm looking at are outdated on HobbyKing and if so where can I find some shorter ones?

----UPDATE----

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-grap...s_products

I've just seen these but they're only 15C with 30C Peak (10s).

I understand that that would be:

Normal: (4000 / 1000) * 15 = 60CDA
Peak: (4000 / 1000) * 30 = 120CDA

Which sounds like it would work since most of the time I'd be under 60 concurrent amps and have the ability to hit 120 for a short period of time in oh shit moments?

Just wondered if what I said above makes sense and whether you guys would use such a battery yourselves?

I don't fly long range. So I can't comment on the capacity. But your calculations are correct.

Thanks for this post. I had also been wondering if the HobbyStar 30C 4S lipos I'd been using had sufficient amperage. Looks like it does.

It is only 3000mAh but the dimensions are very compelling: 99x34x35mm at 275g. Not quite at the 4000mAh you are looking for but might be worth checking out.

I've seen some 3000mah ones but feel like they're just slightly not enough mah to really get the kind of flight time I'd like.

And these ones are 15C standard rated and only 30C burst (for 10s) which is why I'm a bit more weary about them.

If you find something, please share here. I'd love nothing more than to up my mah but this was the best I could find within that size range.

Lumenier has some branded 4000mahs just north of 100mm length but they are never in stock.

This doesn't really help much for the length but you could up it to 4400mAh at 137mm long....

Anyone know if the 15C 4000mah will work?

As you calculated, 4000mah at 15C is 60A. As long as your amp draw is below 60A on cruising, it will work.

I've just realised I can simply get a bigger battery and bottom mount it. That way it doesn't matter if it overlaps a bit. Sometimes the solution is simple Smile
