3s LIPO dead?
#1
I'm a noob and all of a sudden my SERC 2250ma 3S lipo was triggering a blinking light on my charger.  It was a cheap charger so I purchased a new slightly more expensive charger and a 3s 5200ma lipo which is much bigger of course.  Was thinking the charger was bad but both old and new charger work with the new battery but not for the old.

Any hope for this fairly new older battery...  probably 2 weeks of use... and never really drained below 3.5.... anything I can try to see if I can rescue it?

And... is that 5200ma lipo a bad idea... I dont see many videos where people are using that big of a battery.

I just measured and 2 cells are 4.1 and 1 is 8???? how the heck... can i drain that 1 cell some how? Is it because it's not balanced that the chargers wont charge it?

2x4v = 8v
there might be an issue with the wires. personal i would remove the covers and watch the connections. take care, do it only if you feel comfortable to it. nothing wrong by sort out a lipo to early ;-)

there are a lot informations needed :-) 5200mah 3s for what kind of build, motors? weight? rotors?

I Flight succex F7 mini FC 4 in 1 esc and 2306 2450KV motors... Ethix S5 Prop 5x4x3 Tri-Blade Propeller  on a carbon fiber GEPRC Mark 4 clone frame using Beta Flight 4.2.9 and Dshot 600 and rpm filtering also RunCam Pheonix cam iflight 20mm vtx and BN880 gps. Was thinking the higher Mah would give me more flight time to learn... but then I thought what if I made it too heavy to fly... cause right now I am having a heck of a time holding a steady altitude outside of what I think would be normal adjustments to throttle and it seems like most videos I see dont have a battery that runs the entire length of the quad like mine does.

j5200mah 3s is huge and heavy, it might be still way behind the sweetspot out of capacity/weight=flighttime

your build with that battery might be about 1kg, your motors will provide about 800g? on 5inch and 3s. you might have a very low power to weight ratio, maybe 1:3 ... to low for sure Undecided

if you like to use that battery and your focus is flighttime only, you could try to use that parts on a bigger frame and 7inch blades, it would result in a higher power to weight ratio. or maybe the best would be to use that battery as support lipo Undecided

Thank you will buy a smaller battery.

Could you recommend a good size 3S maybe even a good brand that I can buy on Amazon?

I would rather buy multiple of a good size rather than 1 that is over sized for more flight time. I wasn't thinking right at the time I purchased that huge battery,

is there a special reasonto go for 3s, i would suggest a 1300-1650mah 4s. if you focus on cruising only, 1650-1950mah 4s.
you can add a throttle limit to get more easy throttle work. a benefit by using 4s would be the betaflight default tune, itbshould match pretty well without adjustements.

i would suggest dinogy, tattu, noc or gnb lipos. they cost a fortune but quality lipos are more safe, provide better performance and have more cycles/better lifetime.

When I originally built the quad the motors I was using were Readytosky MT2204 2300KV Brushless Motor 2-3S ... so I was thinking at that point I was limited... but I just switched to iFlight 4pcs XING 2306 2450KV Brushless Motor 4S and all the other components I have actually make reference to being able to use 4s.... so I will switch to 4s. I am glad I didnt order... I didnt even know the default BF tune was for 4s. THANK YOU!

Got a set of 1550's and OMG night and day on hovering and accuracy and control. I compared it to driving my Turbo E30 versus my 6.0 Escalade. I flew in the house and circled around a laundry bag cut down a nook by my bed and back up and over... Now it feels much like the SIM. I have one 1550 on the charger but even if my flight time is cut down drastically at least I will have fun and I can just buy more anyway. I really thought I did something wrong on the build or tunning and I did do something wrong not paying attention to the power to weight ratio. Thanks hugnosed_bat you really helped me big time I appreciate it. Will fly both packs in the morning.

nice!
what ampdraw are your escs rated for? as you told about efficiency 2204 motors, maybe the rating is low?
the motors might be able to draw up to 45amps, an output limit should prevent if you use a 30a esc

the default tune isnt made for 4s, its mainly for 5inch with usual power to weight ratio. 6s and 4s settups have same power to weight normaly.

The 4 in 1 esc specs 35A. What would I need to change?

in betaflight configurator - pid tab: on the left bottom there is an option to set a motor outputlimit for a particular cellcount. you could limit it to 75% on 4s as example.

a quality esc can handle higher peaks, the rating should be for constant ampdraw, but it seems they can draw alot: https://www.miniquadtestbench.com/ifligh...450kv.html
they might be powerfull anyway ;-)
