0 Hey all,
Had my first ever fixed wing flight yesterday, a ZOHD Dart 250 all stock and manual (no FC). I managed a few flights out of it before i burnt the motor out.
I was using a 1500Mah 3s battery and the included 3s (3x5x3) prop didnt seem to have enough power to take off at all. i ended up using the 2s prop (5x5x2) and off i went.
Now i'm just trying to work out if i killed the motor by over propping it or if it was user error? (i may have still had throttle on when it went into the grass)

Edit Reason: Typos ) I had the same problem, smoked the original motor, then 2 emax ECO 1407 and finally a RCinPower 1506. All with an different props, the original 3x5x5 and the 5inch biblade that came in the kit. I think that the ESC that is bundled is garbage.
I am now using an ancient xm20a 20Amp BLHELI Esc, RCinPower 1506 4300kv and Gemfan 5126 biblade. With a 850 3S lipo its a really quick plane, can hit 100km/h easily.

14 12-May-2024, 10:28 AM (This post was last modified: 12-May-2024, 10:41 AM by fpvapnea.) Also went through a few motors as i am not so into keeping things light and sub250g. Not interested in that.
Very good results with a t-motor F1507 2700kv and a 3 bladed 5.1x4.3 prop on my 3S lion powerd, rather heavy build, dart250g (550g with vista and extra runcam thumb pro and lots of other stuff). But ended up with my now favorite combo (overpowered but lots of fun) t-motor F40 PRO III 2600kv and a 6x4.3x2 prop. (had to make a custom 3d printed motormount )
Does not feel the weight at all, can take off almost vertically in autolaunch (inav) and easily do 130km/h on a 3s lion 18650 3000mAh pack. So running it with a lipo will be even more fun for acrobatic stuff etc penalising flight time of course
Also the heavy motor easily balances out the heavy lion pack in front so CG can easily be set spot on.
Also and one of the reaons i went this route , is the 6inch blades are super silent instead of these loud screaming high rpm 3 or 4 inch blades. I hate that sound, specialy in the quiet areas i fly. But to push these you need the right motor with lots of headroom.
(ps esc is an aikon 35 amp cont 45 amp peak to have some headroom and also updated the servos , so all this stuff eventualy ends up in weight . But you can find lots of people online who went the other way and keep it super duper light , which also gives great results. Its just a matter of taste. Just experiment and have fun)
