Went flying yesterday with the old wing guys
#1
It is no joke, old guys don’t like change… I went out flying with some of the local RC wing guys yesterday These guys are hobbiest, they like to fly, crash, rebuild, repeat.. not so much “scale replica” stuff. And yes, everyone was flying LOS.
However everyone was very curious, not so much in the quads but FPV. And this one day I didn’t bring my spare goggles!! One gentleman informed me he had a pair of Fatsharks and his one wing had a. Camera / vtx but he was totally lost with the system. And couldn’t get a picture.
Long story short, I told him to power up the plane and I would see what I could do… did a scan, got a good clean OSD but not picture… yup, lens cap..
Told him to launch / fly it.. nice clean video .. I then handed the goggles over to the other pilots.. these guys were totally amazed..
We talked more than we flew.. not just about fpv, but mostly loosing flying locations.. we were at a “public park” football / baseball / soccer.. and at one point (past encounter) a parent complained about the planes flying because it was destracting the kids ..
I turned them onto the whole FAA / congress situation.. they were very receptive ..
All in all, it was a good day of flying..

I could be called one of those old guys I guess... I have a ton of epp LOS wings and fly with other greying individuals... and spend more time talking than flying when I do. I like tech a lot though, and have been keeping up with the modern fpv scene/aggressive piloting/yt influencers/etc... right along side the whipper snappers, lol.

That's where modern society loses me... distracting from what... a sport they were forced to play that they hate? LOL, being a parent of 3, one about to grad college the other a year from entering HS... I see this kind of crap all the time, and it's not good for child development. What happened to... "lets go talk to those men and see what they're up to?"... with the idea your kid may become an astronaut from the inspiration they will get? The direction both hobbies are going with recent legislation is a sad commentary on our society I'm afraid. IDK... think I'm just sounding more and more like one of those old guys hehe.
