KV motor question
#1
I bought my young son a little SG 1602 truggy which is powered by a 2S battery that gives current to a 2435 sized 3900KV motor.

What would happen if I swapped that motor for a similar sized but 4500KV one such as this? https://www.banggood.com/GTSKYTENRC-2435...rehouse=CN

Would it risk burning the motor, depleting the battery faster etc etc?

Thanks

PS Maybe I've found the reply myself "A motor with a higher kV will have more top end speed, but not as much acceleration/torque. A motor with a lower kV will not be as fast, but will accelerate faster and have more torque." ... is this all?

additionaly; high kv can be inefficiency and bad for the battery health.
it could give problems from high speed or accrelation, if the new motor is very different about power... faster does usualy means more repairing is my experience with rc cars.

i beleive there wont be a problem on 2s with 4500kv.

i would try some different motor gears, cheap and you could bring it fast and inefficiency aswell ;-)

Thanks a lot. Not finding the exact replacement that I can order. I would be happier but if not I can try what you suggest Smile

I’m not familiar with the truck/buggy or if it’s got interchangeable spur gears.
The safest way is to go with a lower Kv motor and you might lose some top speed but you’ll gain take off power and won’t risk burning up ESC or getting batteries hot.
Going higher increases speed but you risk over loading motor and burning up ESC/motor or batteries.
If you can change spur gears then there’s more options.

its not the same like with quads, the force goes throw gears and wheels.
choice is between destroy the mechanics and the electronics. the electronics like esc have huge abilities to handle short current up to 400a on a beefy 1/10, there isnt as much risk for the motor and electronics like with drones.
i had a truly burning esc on a 1/10 car, because i used huge tires with very much grip, some baloon tires from louise - it was my fault.

if it doenst climb up to 40mph allready i would focus the gears health more than the electronics health - it depends a lot on your car. what car do have?

The motor heats up a lot must find a way to cool it better ... ordered a passive heatsink with fins and maube need to drill holes in the canopy?

the heat up a lot, as they are closed without direct aircooling, its pretty normal. mine was allways untouchable after driving but i never had any issue. i beleive additional cooling isnt needed.

i beleive there arent a lot replacement parts, make it faster can destroy other components which wont be available. i would suggest to stay away from any tuning if you like to get a long lifetime. probably i would try different tires.
spare parts should be available, famous more expensive brands does provide this: traxxas, losi/vaterra/arrma/... yokomo... there is a thoughtfull base needed to get pleasure while tuning a rccar

here is a hungry thing, i spend about 700bucks over all Undecided its a rocket, but its not a durable system..

WOW that looks absolutely amazing Smile In my case it's just a nice toy for my 8yr old kid so he can have fun while dad flies his drone quad Smile

let him drive this 3900kv motor ;-) you will receive troubleshot-work from your quads ;-)

A lot of the cars you get on banggood.com are nice because they are less expensive, but where they really cheap out are on the electronics. Very common for that stuff to overheat. Venting the body won't help at all. Changing the gearing like was suggested could possibly bring the heat down. You can also try adding a fan to cool the motor.

If you have the money to spend I would try a whole ESC and motor package from Castle Creations like this.

Castle stuff is bullet proof and made for bashing around all day long.
