Turnigy TGX 9X not found as controller on Windows 11 for sims.
#1
I have just downloaded my first drone simulator (Liftoff) and I have exhausted every avenue (short of ordering a new TX radio or dongle) for making my P.C. running windows 11 recognize my Turigy TGY 9X transmitter as a controller. I have tried plugging every kind of chord into it, I have tried smartpropoplus and all the mic, speaker, and headphone inputs with nothing but "weak signal" showing up and all the channels spiking up and down. I have tried using my TBS crossfire equipment running through the flight controller through betaflight to link as a controller to no avail. Can anybody tell me what I am missing?

I struggled with this for quite a while, I finally got it working via the trainer port (the 3.5mm jack on the back of the TX, just below the module bay) and SmartPropoPlus. Here's everything I learned:

Hardware:
  • The transmitter must be powered off; connecting a cable to the trainer port will turn it on without supplying power to the module. If the TX is switched on, the output to the trainer cable will just be noise.
  • 4-pole cables don't work in my experience; use a stereo or mono cable and a dedicated microphone jack.
Software:
  • The latest versions of SPP don't work for me on Windows 10. Go to https://sourceforge.net/projects/smartpr...propoplus/ and download 4.0.1 (this is the latest release I could get to work reliably). Make sure you uninstall any other versions first.
  • Windows microphone levels can cause unpredictable behavior. Go to [ Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Recording ] and double click on the input you're using. Go to the "Levels" tab: set "Microphone" to around 90 and "Microphone Boost" to 0.0dB. Also, make sure it's set as the default device.
In SmartPropoPlus:
  • Input tab: Auto for both settings
  • Transmitter tab: [ PPM -> Walkera ] for a Turnigy 9x with PPM. [ PCM -> Futaba ] for PCM.
