20 30-Apr-2024, 06:04 PM (This post was last modified: 30-Apr-2024, 06:05 PM by Rob Axel.) Funny, when I first got into fpv, I read / saw people talking about “protecting moto wires”…using broken prop blades, 3d prints.. and “race wire”..
I bought into it for a bit and used “led race wire”.. i have smoked motors, flight controllers, ESCs , broken multiple frames and unknown number of props…but have YET, “cut a motor wire” on any of my quads..

794 I think it depends how aggressively you fly and if you have a hard crash upside down, but if you do that you probably have more expensive broken parts to worry about than a few sliced motor wires. Prop blades also seem to be stiffer these days so the chances of them flexing and hitting the wires are probably remote. Back when separate ESCs were used on the arms it was a thing to put TPU covers over the ESC boards to protect them from getting slashed up in a crash, but you don't really see those ESCs anymore.

4 I ran the wires on my original Crux35 on the bottom after cutting one in a tangle with a tree. In about the middle, one blade got bent down at around a 45. The bent blade cut through the cloth tape (that I added) and one of the motor wires. Usually the tips bend up though. Could'a been a fluke I guess. All my other quads just have the cloth tape or nothing... Oops, the mini apex came with custom molded wire protectors.

4 Yup. I have 3 builds and many repairs waiting in line. I finally got my phantom 2.5 (smart25) repaired and converted to elrs. Only took me... 2-ish years? lol.
