Lightweight 3" frame recommendations?
#1
I'm going to build a light 3" mostly for practice low altitude flying trough smal gaps.
Low mass and long flight times are prioritized, so going to use a AIO FC, 1103 7500kv or 1004 8000kv and 2-3s LiPo.

Can anyone recommend a good 3" frame for this build? Maybe a 3" toothpick frame with lightweight components would be suitable?

I'm in the EU and most of the frames I have found are sold by US companies so the postage is 2-4 times the price of the frame. So if it is available in the EU or Asia would be nice!

its a nice frame for a ultralight configuration, its expensixe but high quality; no edges at all :-)

They have some nice frames! The Stickix, Riskix and the 3" Practix looks really interesting.

Anyone who have flown any of these frames?

i flew the sticki x 2,5inch version, i had some 1103 8000kv motors a 16x16mm stack. i was able to get 40g buildweight used with 17g turnigy nanotech 300mah 2s batteries, hq 65mm.

a buddy has a risky x and a 3inch version of the sticki.
i believe the risky x is out of stock, maybe not available anymore.

I have a 2.5" toothpick with 1004 8000kv and 16X16 stack, I'm going to fly the hell out of that frame and use some parts from that quad for this build. I was thinking about using a AIO, but my 16X16 iFlight Succex F4 with VTX might work as well?
There is AIO's with built in ELRS RX and VTX, that should save a few grams, but it has its downside with everything on one PCB and there is really small/lightweight ELRS RX's and the VTX on the iFlight stack has pretty good range with a omni antenna. Have to consider pros vs cons using AIO or 16X16 stack and EP2 with ceramic antenna?

The Stickix and Riskix looks really nice, I wonder if what the difference in weight between the Stickix TPU and Carbon version is, cant find anything about that in the info on the site.
Both of them are available, but on of them is only two left in stock.

i believe its about 1-2g difference, the carbon-tpu canopy is heavier
i like the tpu pod design is pretty nice an rigid, i use that canopy design on many micros.

maybe the precise weight difference is described on thingiverse profile, all designs are available there.

That's not to much weight difference, guessing the carbon-tpu canopy is a bit more durable.

Thinking about ordering one RiskiX frame and one StickiX frame with carbon canopy and a spare TPU canopy so I can try booth.
One of the frames is going to be built very lightweight for 2-3s and the other one with a little more power and probably 4s, though 6s on 3" could be interesting!

Does anyone know what size cam that fits the canopy? They recommend parts on the website for some of the frames, but for some of the frames they dont write any details at all, think I have to send them a mail.
But they actually recommends the iFlight Succex 16X16 stack, and I have two of those so that should be a good start, though I want to try one of the AIO's with ELRS RX and VTX.
Maybe one build with stack and one with AIO to see the pros and cons for myself.

the mount is for nano sized cams, 14x14mm

does the succes realy fit under the canopy?

i would choose the hglrc 16x16stack, they would have a 6s version. they had a pnp with 1106 and ?2700kv? for 6s.
the limitating factor is batterys, there are no small matching 6s batteries. would need son battery crafting, a 300mah 6s from two 3s 300mahs maybe..
as you like to stay lightweight, there arent realy benefits for 4s or above on a 75g uaw quad with 3inch.

They recommended that exakt stack and nano cam for the RiskiX and StickiX in a email I got from them, so it should fit.

Going to order a AIO that can handle 4s and a nano cam since the only nano cam I have in the parts bin is a Caddx Eos2 that I got with a BNF but changed it since I really dont like that cam, way to slow to adjust for changes in light etc.

I have a Foxxer Razer nano in a the quad that came with the Eos2 and it's sooo much better, so maybe one of those or try some other nano cam that may be even better?

runcam nano racer, a foxeer nano pradator or a caddx baby ratel

Going to check what my local FPV shops have in stock when it comes to nano cams, feels like anything that's not a Eos2 is a improvement.

I do have the Micro version of the Foxeer Predator and Foxeer Razer in 5" quads and are happy with both of them.
Even the Caddx Ant that came in my DarwinFPV 2.5" BNF Cinewhoop and my old cheapo eachine AIO cam/VTX works way better than the Eos2.

Changes in the surrounding light is something the Eos2 really seems to struggles with, flying on sunny days are horrible, especially when flying "away" from then sun and doing a 180° turn, flip, powerloop or anything that makes the cam point a little towards the sun makes the cam go nuts and over expose/over compensate so bad that the whole screen turns almost completely dark for a second or two, almost crashed a couple of times because of that.
Maybe I got a example of the Eos2 that's a little worse than the rest of them?
None of the 10+ cams from different brands (Foxxer, Runcam, Caddx, Fatshark, Eachine) I have or had before behaved like this..

as example the runcam nanos are as bad as the eos - lightweight and inexpensive

the ant is very nice for weight and price.
the others does match about value for money in my eyes. the weight of a pradator can be to much on a lightweight build.

What's in stock at my local shops are Foxxer nano Razer and nano predator, Caddx Ant nano, Runcam Nano 2 and Runcam Racer 4 nano.

I'm leaning against the Caddx Ant since I have previous experience of that cam, it's has been working fine for me once I got it setup and it's very lightweight.

Frame wise I like the BetaFPV/RacerX frames in sizes 2-3". The smaller ones can be had for a few dollars each. I tend to buy 5-6 each time I order them and if I break them, i replace the frame and move on. They are pretty light and very tough for what you pay. But looking at what you are contemplating buying they probably wouldn't suit you as they are about 10g heavier than the StickiX. But the upside is they are pretty tough. i managed to snap an arm only after my quad failsafed at around 30 mph and went into a rock floor and that partially snapped an arm. I crashed many other times in the same location and didn't break an arm, so for the money they are pretty tough frames.

For the 2" and 2.5", get them from xinte, on ebay. and bulk buy to get the bulk discount. I tend to pay about £5 per frame for the 2" and £6.70 for the 2.5"
