Hota D6+ fan not spinning
#1
Hey
I bought a hota D6+ charger but the main fan is not spinning while charging.
But if i plug the charger in then the main fan starts up but doesn't spin while charging.
Does anyone also had this problem?

I know mine usually doesn't spin up for a while when charging. If you're charging small FPV sized batteries one at a time it may not be enough load for it to need to spin up. However when mine does finally spin up it will run pretty erratically even long after the charge cycle is done until it's unplugged. I do recall many months ago on another forum seeing people downgrading the firmware to get rid of the weird fan behavior. Never tried to mess with it in case it broke bluetooth charging through the app.

Yes but not until well into the charge cylce, like it only starts until it heats up.

I have a Hota D6 Dual (non-pro version) and I have disabled wireless charging and so my fan does not run all the time. But it does kick in at some stage during the charge cycle.

Prior to disabling the wireless charging the fan would run all the time.

And the buzzing sound is normal?

Not sure about buzzing but when mine starts running it sounds like it's just on the edge of needing to run, starts to ramp up, then slows down. Like the fans aren't running at full speed. When I've charged larger batteries the fans sound a little more normal.

But the fans never stop running, even long after the charge cycle I've usually been unplugging after 30 mins or so, or after flying if I leave right away.

I use HobbyMate D6 Pro Duo.

When I turn mine on, the fan kicks on high for a second as it does it's 'self-test' then it drops to a very low barely audible running. Then if I am charging larger lipos like (6x) 6s 1300's the fan will turn itself up to high once the charger has been going for a bit and it starts to heat up. Then once it is done charging or about done the fan will slow itself down as it is not producing as much heat. If I am just charging a few small lipos like 550mah 3s, the fan might stay at that low level without having to kick up to high, but the fan is always running at least at that low level.

The fan will also run at high when Discharging to get rid of all that extra heat.

If anyone else gets tired of having to plug/unplug the cord from the back to turn it on/off I bought one of these from amazon and it works perfectly:

That way it works as a simple On/Off switch without having to unplug the cord. (how the hell did they forget an off switch on this thing still eludes me...)

+1 on the On/Off switch. Why in this hobby?

I know this thread is a bit old but the following information may help those with similar issues:

1. It's a known (some say it's an issue, others just say bothersome) thing that from firmware 1.0.15 and up there is the dreaded small fan cycling up and slowing down.  It will keep doing this.  The fix for this is to downgrade firmware to 1.0.11 to have the fans work properly.

Firmwares below.  I've tried all 3 of them and staying at 1.0.11 was the fix for me with the constant winding up and down of the small fan.  As always scan the files before using them.

D6+ V1.0.11
1.0.11 includes the Hota firmware update tool and a instruction word document.  Tip: connect the charger to your PC for it to recognize it first.   Once detected, disconnect charger unplug it from mains and follow the doc to update firmware. You have a small window to initiate the update so have the update app started up.  Else you'll have to start over and try again.

D6+ V1.0.15
I couldn't find what updates were part of this version

D6+ V1.0.20
1.0.20 supposedly fixes the electrical whining/buzzing noise issue according to Hota tech.  I cannot confirm this as my issue was with the fan grill.

2. Whining/Clicking noise from device.  There are 2 types of noise that have been raised from what I was able to research during my investigation of my D6+.  (I had the clicking one)

  • Electrical whining
Per Hota tech, you need to add a cap to the power connector.

Cap location - The cap is at the front left side of the unit.  You can probably see it through the front case slots.  If you see the cap on the connector, then you may be encountering the issue I had.  If you cannot see the cap/connector, open up the unit to confirm.

Cap Information

  • Clicking type noise
Fan grill

This issue was (for me) due to the inner fan grill rubbing against the smaller fan.  All it took was to bend it back outward and the rubbing 'clicking' noise went away.  An after thought after closing up the unit you may want to put a piece of double sided tape between the fan and the plastic grill as it may want to curve back to it's original state.  I haven't heard the noise since the adjustment.  YMMV.

Cheers.
