Flying in the Snowy Forest
#1
It snowed today, on top of the snow we already had, and I had to get out and fly a pack through the woods.

Nice!

Scraggle City, that woodland! If thats over the back fence, I'd be sneaking out and making a couple of low level micro/mini circuits clearer when no-one was looking!!

Great flight and flying while it was snowing. Was it easier or harder to see the scraggle with that light snow coating? Too bad I missed the snowfall, then again I probably would had dropped my quads into the snow and had a fun time searching for it...

I think it was harder to see, just so much glitter and distraction and bright light made it a bit tougher to focus on the branches. Not to mention the nerves of knowing that if I go down it's going to be a potential problem in the snow.

Well I took out a few drones in the snow, but with the 25mph gusting winds and not having flown in quite a while... I ended up dunking them all in the snow  ROFL
I guess I should wait for the winds to calm down a little, but its gorgeous out there. It barely snowed at all last winter, so I think this is the most snow we've seen here.

It's the most we've gotten while in this spot, so about the last 8 years or so. Really gorgeous out there. Hope all the quads made it out of the snow unscathed!

I flew a handful more drones and brought out the naked action cams. The winds calmed down a little around sunset, but too bad not a cloud in the sky.
I did dunk and dip a few more quads into the snow even though I tried to fly conservatively, and none of them are conformal coated, but lucky the snow is not very deep. My experience so far is just to unplug the battery, shake off the snow, and don't power it up again until its dried out. I'll know for sure when I check the quads tomorrow, but don't expect anything to be damaged and hopefully I won't be surprised.

We got 20"+ overnight just two years back two hours north of here. Of course that was quite rare, but it was gorgeous too as long as you weren't in a rush to get anywhere.

A calm evening and beautiful sunset. Thanks again @fpvme for loaning me the 4S 850 packs, they performed really well in the cold.

Nice flights. Beautiful skies and the snow really does transform the surroundings.

I envy people who get snow. We don't very often over here, any more. Back in the 80s and 90s we would get a lot of snow. Now it's more of a rarity.

Snow envy Big Grin
I admit I get that when I see FPV videos of flying in alpine forests with snow covered trees (very pretty). But in reality I know my fingers and other body parts would freeze and I would probably never find my micro drone in the deep snow.
Well it seems snow is rare and fleeting here too, temps reached 13C today (18C tomorrow!!) and just like that all the snow is gone.

Yeah, the snow is pretty, but I'm definitely antsy to fly in the "lush growing warm forest" Smile
