My HDO2 goggles made a loud pop and smoke came out the right side of them. They still power on but there is no picture on the screen. I took them apart and I can see the problem is a burned out component on the board at Q1 (see red arrow). I think this is a MOSFET, right? I have some soldering experience so I'm hoping I can order a new MOSFET from some online vendor such as mouser and replace this, but I don't know what kind to buy. Another option would be to replace this board, but I cannot find anyone online that sells it. Has anyone had this type board fail on them before? What did you do? I contacted fatshark customer service but I haven't heard back from them yet. I bought this off ebay used so I doubt that the warranty would still apply.

That's a voltage regulator, not a MOSFET. FatShark support went to complete since they got bought out by Red Cat so you may be waiting around for some time (or forever) before you hear back from them.
If you have the equipment and soldering skills to replace it then your best option would be to try and find someone with the same goggles who is willing to take their goggles apart and read the identifying numbers / letters on the top of that IC, unless you are still able to read the ones on yours. That would then give you some chance of trying to find a replacement of the same.

Thanks for the info. That doesn't sound too encouraging to hear that fatsharks customer support is terrible . I did find this...
It says in the description that it can be used for an HDO2. The only downside I see is that it doesn't have a power button, but I never did use the power button anyway. Do you think this would work?

Yes, it does look like you can use the older FSV3407 VIN Board to replace the original HDO2 VIN Board with the button on it. You will just end up with the PS/2 head tracker data socket sticking out through the casing where the power button currently is.
Be aware that the original HDO2 VIN Board powers/controls the fan on the faceplate, so if you fit the older FSV3407 VIN Board to your HDO2's you will need to solder the fan wires directly to the VBAT connections on the FSV3407 VIN Board because it doesn't have socket for the fan plug. Greg mentions this in a post on RC Groups HERE.
a buddy had a problem on his hdo 2 without warranty. he received a replacement part from fatsharks support, for free without any shipping cost. it didnt solve the problem, he sent the goggle to fatsharks support, on the other end of the world, it took some time and shippong cost, but it came back well repaired. there is still some good support, maybe rare... but i would try to get replacement by fatsharks support

I reached out to FatShark yesterday and they haven't gotten back to me yet. I'll try again today and see what happens. I think a day or two is a good enough turn around time for customer service to get back to me. In the meantime, I pulled apart my Dominator V3s and I used the power board on them to power my HDO2. It seems to work. I still have to solder the fan cable directly to the barrel plug to get power to the fan, but I think this solution will work fine in the short term.
You were correct about Fat Shark's horrible customer service. I've reached out to them twice now and I still haven't heard back. Maybe the lack of reply has to do with it being Chinese New Year? Are there any goggle vendors left with decent customer service?
Thought I would post an update. Fat Shark did get back to me about a week later and sent me a new board free of charge. Faith in Fat Shark's customer service has been restored
The new board is Model# FSV3410 and the component that burnt out on the board has the symbols S1 on it, but I'm not sure what that means.

Glad to hear that, thanks for the follow up. I have sent a service request to Fatshark a few days ago for a burnt out LCD spot. I did see an add for an almost too good to be true "Eyezone 'Yuan' FPV goggles on the Antigravity website. But I'm not sure 28 degrees FOV would satisfy me anymore...
