ZMR 250 Build (5mm Arms)
#1
After picking up a cheap ZMR 250 frame from eBay, I decided to get another build going. Most of the components from the previous build will be carried over with the exception of a few.

Parts List
  • ZMR 250 Frame with 5mm Arms
  • Littlebee 20A ESCs
  • DYS 1806 Motors
  • Matek PDB
  • Naze32 Flight Controller
  • King Kong 5045 Props
  • Runcam Skyplus Camera
  • Aomway 200mw VTX
  • Nano-Tech 1300 3S
Some of these parts will be changed eventually but for now I am happy with them.

Beginning of the build, checking wiring lengths. Battery cable soldered to the PDB.

Electronics soldered ready to be fitted to the frame.

FPV wiring finished and everything fitted to the frame.

I tried to make this build neater than the last by removing all unnecessary wiring and I no longer use bullet connectors.

The maiden flight went great until this happened...

I manged to snap a motor shaft when a goalpost appeared in front of me. Easy fix though as the rest of the motor is OK.

Any questions or feedback, feel free to leave a comment.

I've just bought a set of DYS SE2205 motors based on your blog post and other positive comments I've read. Next upgrade will be some 4S batteries.

Just been out this afternoon and flown 3 packs.

The new motors are excellent plenty of power and great throttle response. I also tried out Betaflight for the first time and I can see what all the hype is about, the quad is the smoothest it has ever been.

I'm going to setup airmode and give that a try.

I ordered a few Drone Lab 4S batteries from RadioC yesterday, I can't wait to try them.

Quick question.

I have got my 4S batteries now but I haven't tried them yet. This is due to my PDB not having an LC filter.

The PDB I am currently using is this: http://www.banggood.com/Matek-Mini-Power...05549.html

I am taking the power and signal feeds from the corresponding pads on the PDB but I think they are unfiltered. I run Littlebees and have heard about FPV gear getting destroyed without a filter.

Would I be able to put an LC filter between the power wires to the VTX?

I might order a Demon RC PDB which would solve this problem.

I haven't tried that PDB, but there is LC filter onboard, in fact there are 2 I think 1 is for 5V one for 12 V...

If you are concerned, you can put a large capacitor (220uF or bigger) on the esc power input? This should help reduce the spikes

Do you mean the pads with the battery connector on?

You can do that too, it's effectively the same

these are really nice frames, I got two of them that I use, the only issue I've had with is the screws that they come with strip extremely easy, and if you're not careful you're going to have to use a drill with a screw extractor to remove them because of the lock nuts that are built into the bottom plate. and since you are going with the bigger 2205 motors that kind of over hang on the arms I highly recommend getting some motor covers, they're not really that durable but trust me, you would rather change a $4.50 motor cover, than a whole motor. and I have the same PDB on my ZMR250 with a immersionrc vtx 200mw, if you are experiencing noise in your video feed, try switching your connections, don't use the designated pads on the PDB for camera and vtx. if you have a camera that supports 12v then use the 12v bec on the other side of the board to power both your cam and vtx, and connect the signal wire directly. this is what I did and now my video is flawless.

Tried it today and it works great. The video feed is much better than before.

First time on 4S as well and the quad has tons of power.
