XT60 for XT30?
#1
There are these connectors which are like a smaller version of the good old XT60 connector called the XT30. I recently found a few batteries for the Lizard95 which have XT30 connectors. My question is this: Can I use XT60 connectors instead of the stock XT30 connectors? For example, could I solder an XT60 connector to the Lizard95 and to the 550mah 3s lipo instead of using their default XT30? I was wondering if there would be any significant difference other than weight. I just want to save a few bucks becuase I have a whole bunch of XT60s, and I really don't want to go out and buy some XT30s. Thanks! Smile

You can always go up. So XT30 converted to XT60 is okay at the cost of weight. You can't go from XT60 to XT30 due to current rating is not enough.

My Lizzy came with an XT-30 and it has worked perfectly. I have found most high current batteries that are marketed to the brushless micro world are XT-30 based. The smaller connector still allows for excellent current flow, connection retention while staying proportional to the 90-120mm frames.

I built the Kaity-110 with 1105 7500kv motors and a 28 amp stack on a 110mm frame and I have never once has a problem with the smaller connector.
SoCal Kaity :D
OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun!  Addicted :)

I'm with kaitylynn here. On a micro quad, an XT60 is a huge waste of weight.

The XT30 is the perfect connector for 4" and under quads. It can handle burst currents of 45A and is appropriately sized for the 30A constant rating. When I see powerful micro quads with JST-RCY connectors for the battery, I just cringe. They're rated for 5A constant current!

I only have two types of connectors on my quad batteries. XT60 or XT30 as appropriate to the application. If a battery arrives with the wrong connector, I just cut them off and solder on the right one.

The only thing to be aware of with XT connectors is that the male parts get compressed after a while and doesn't connect properly. All you have to do is put a micro flat blade screwdriver or a toothpick in the end of the male part and splay it out a little once in a while. If an XT connector feels too loose when you mate it with the battery, it's a sign that you need to adjust the male connector.
