XSR gets REALLY hot
#1
I just picked up a brand new Flip32 Omnibus F3 and a brand new XSR.
Having only used a D4R-II and PPM before, it was relatively easy to set this up....although I noticed as I was messing around that it was getting incredibly hot.  So hot I couldn't hold the XSR in my hand.

Now I'm pretty sure this is because I have the Lipo going full power to the FC.  It can handle that.  But apparently the XSR can't?
If I plug in the Lipo, that's when the heat happens (and at least one time led to the XSR rebooting itself after a few minutes) but if I plug in only via USB, the XSR powers on and gets warm, but not incredibly hot.

Anyone know how I can use the full Lipo power but not overpower the XSR?

How high is your Lipo voltage? The XSR can only handle 10V maximum, thats 2S!

So a possible solution is to connect the XSR to the 5V rail of the F3 or to use a separate voltage converter...

Mephi is correct.  The XSR is designed to run on 5v.  IF you're running full lipo voltage (anything over 1S) you're putting too much voltage into it.  5v is what you want .....either off the FC or a separate regulator as started by Mephi.

I didn't even realize there was a 5v rail. Thank you for the help, I'll make sure it's powered via that.

The 5v rail didn't solve it for me, then I figured out the problem. I was providing the direct lipo into INTO the 5v rail. This powered the FC, but it also gave all 5v pins a full 12v (from 3s). I moved the lipo input to the proper rail and now the 5v only ouptuts 5v as expected.

WOW, hopefully everything survived...

Luckily I was doing a brand new setup. The only things connected were PDB to FC and FC to XSR.

Got it all connected last night and tried it out this morning. Upgrade from Flip32 (F1 chip) and PPM to Omnibus F3 and XSR (Sbus).....super snappy and as soon as I figure out the OSD this is a great upgrade.
