X4R-sb Smart port with FrSky telemetry pins on NAZE32 Rev6 ?
#1
Question
Is it possible to connect the  X4R-sb Smart port to FrSky telemetry pins on NAZE32 Rev6 ?
This would allow use of LED output on pin 5, which is otherwise disabled if enabling/using soft serial for Smart port telemetry on pin 5.

I would like to be able to use FrSky X4R-sb, SBUS (for flight control), Smart port (for telemetry), and still be able to use LED output on pin 5 of NAZE32 Rev6 for my LEDs.

i don't think so, same as the Rev5, Smart port has to utilise the soft serial port on Pin 5 and 6...
if you case if you want LED it's probably best to run PPM...

Thanks Oscar,
If I switch receiver output to PPM and connect to input pin1, then turn on FC soft serial and
connect x4r-sb smart port telemetry to pins 5 and 6 with telemetry inversion on,
Then where do I get LED signal from?
I read that with soft serial on, there is no LED out from pin 5.

Can you briefly explain why smart port has to be on soft serial in/out, and not on FrSky telemetry UART 1?
Is it because of hardware, software or combination of both?
IF it is only software, then it might be fixed/added in a future firmware update?
If it is only because of inverted signal, then I can easily fix that with signal inverter hardware in between smart port and NAZE32 Rev6.

Thanks again for helping me and for your contribution to our hobby Big Grin

sorry i meant running a different receiver i.e. the D4R-II, so you can utilise the Telemetry pins on the Naze32 rather than the pin5/6 softserial pins.

It's a pain in the butt Smile that's why i stop using RGB LEDs with cleanflight because the pins limitation. I only use mono colour LEDs now that are powered by lipo Smile

Thanks Oscar,
You have been very helpful.
I already have a lot of X4r-sb RXs, so I will hope for firmware update that allows use of smart port on FRSky input UART 1, or some other workaround. Would be fun to have color changing LED bling on my quads Tongue

Still don't know the reason why smart port can only be on softserial.
Maybe a question better explained by hardware/firmware developers.

Until further developments, I too will use my mono color LEDs, or have telemetry, but not both at the same time.

Was wondering if somebody could help me out. I have the naze32 rev6 and the X4r SB receiver. I have telementary set up on pins 5 & 6 on soft serial.using smartport.I have all of my telemetry. I see full battery voltage in cleanflight but I only have one cell voltage coming to my taranis. My taranis is on open tx 2.0.can someone tell my how to get the full voltage readout.

that's normal Smile
your taranis has no way to know the voltage on each cell, because they are not monitored individually..
this cell voltage is worked out my dividing the pack voltage by the number of cells...

To get the full pack voltage i think you should use VFAS?

I am using vfas.with a fully charged 4 cell battery my vfas on the taranis only shows 4.1volts.any suggestions as to why it doesn't read 16 volts

How is your vBat wired on the Naze32? I have mine wired to the ESC power leads on my PDB.

check on the configurations tab in cleanflight, under battery monitoring there's a setting on the bottom for battery accuracy or something like that, I forget what it's called but if I remember correctly it's the last set of numbers and it should be set to something like 4.1 but I'm not 100% sure cause I don't have it in front of me right now .

I'm running betaflight 2.9 with a SPracingf3 and a x4r sb. I couldn't get VFAS from the telemetry. I did a CLI dump and I noticed VFAS voltage setting in the dump and it was turned off. I turned it on and now VFAS is working. I've never seen anything written about having to turn that on though. It reads as a cell voltage.

did you have battery monitoring enabled on the configuration tab in Betaflight?

Yes I did. I did also see an issue posted on on the betaflight site about issues with telemetry working on 2.9. Since I turned VFAS on in CLI it seems to be working ok now.
