X4R-SB channel mapping
#1
I just come across an interesting hack for the X4R-SB. This way you have SBUS+4 PWM channels available and those 4 PWM channels are mapped to channel 9-12!
This mod includes bypassing the SBUS output pins, flashing with X8R firmware and shorting pin 1+2 and SB+3 while binding.
Credit goes to a user called djsyl from a french frsky forum.

I haven't done the hack yet, waiting for your feedback and thoughts about it, especially flashing with the X8R firmware seems risky to me.

For those of you who are interested:

It works great! Smile

I don't need the 4th PWM channel, so haven't done the soldering part. I only flashed the X4R-SB with X8R firmware (latest LBT) and bound it as illustrated in the picture.
Now I have SBUS 1-8 and 3 true PWM channel 9-11! The mini 3d gimbal works like a treat now Smile

that's excellent Smile very good to know!
the additional PWM channel can probably used to control the camera's shutter if you want hehe Big Grin
for example the Runcam 2 has released a new firmware that allow you to do that with a pwm channel...

Short question: did you bridge the r35 solder joint with the signal wire?
Thanks!

The PWM can also be useful for changing channels on VTX's that supports this.

Since I don't need the fourth pwm channel, I haven't done the soldering. Without doing any measurement I would guess that R35 is not bridged anymore, because it was initially bridged with a zero ohm resistor.

You are right, additional PWM outputs can come in very handy. The beauty of this mod is, that the 3 or even 4 extra PWM outputs are mapped to channel 9,10,11,12 which simplifies transmitter programming.

Thanks for clarifying that.

So you basicly flashed the X8r software and you are done?
I only need one PWM output for my discovery buzzer so this would be great for my needs!

Yes, you only need to flash the X8R software and bind like illustrated in the picture above (shorting pin 1+2 and SB+3 while binding).

Awesome!
The additional PWM channel can be used on radio controlled switch too :-)
I'll do this mod!

How do you power the x4r for binding if all 4 signal pins are bridged?

You only need to bridge the signal pins, 5V and GND don't have to be not bridged (they are connected internally anyway)

Hi friends. I have a x4rsbus and need to use as a 4 channel pwm for my glider. What i must do ? I don't need sbus output just want 4 channel pwm output.

I assume you just want the X4R-SB to output PWM for servo directly. I believe you just need to bind the receiver without any jumper. Once bound, ch1-4 should work for servo.
