Wizard X220 ESC -I'm a liar - It was the FC
#1
SEE POST #6

So I'm pretty sure that I burnt up an ESC, or it came burnt out, or the motor is bad.   I'm not 100% sure, or 100% how to tell, other than the motor won't spin.  I hooked up the quad to the computer, and ran the calibrations/tests and what not, the 3 other 3 spin, the 1 does not.

So...

I'm looking for replacement ESCs.    I'm thinking I would buy the same esc to replace it, but I can't seem to fine the same one.  If I can, and then maybe another set of 4 that are upgraded/latest technology, if that's possible.  Maybe run DSHOT 600 or something.   The ones on there now are the BLHELI_S.  20A.   Not sure which version, but I got the quad just recently, recently enough that I'm not sure It wasn't defective to begin with.

Anyways,
   Can someone stir me to:

 1.  The replacement.    does this work?  (it doesn't have oneshot128, and I think that's what the other ones are using).

 2.  Something awesome that I can put on the wizard. Smile

Thanks Guys!

The V2 Racerstar RS20A BLHeli_S ESCs are very good for the price. The ones you linked to are the V1 with the slower BB1 microcontroller.

The Wizard X220 comes with BLHeli_S 20A ESCs, although I don't know if they have the BB1 or BB2 MCU. The Racerstar ESC will be a good substitute for the dead one. All ESCs that run BLHeli_S support OneShot125 and unless you're a really experienced pilot, you won't notice any difference running Multishot or D-Shot and you can't assume that the ESCs will support D-Shot without modifications.

I can't really suggest anything to put on the Wizard apart from 'nothing at all'. Smile Every extra gramme of weight is ten seconds less time in the air!

edit: I would probably add a microMinim OSD and a buzzer though. It's nice to be able to land before your battery runs out of power and the quad drops from the sky! Big Grin

Thanks.   Yeah, I wasn't talking about nifty crazy things to put on it, rather, upgraded good ESCs that would be maybe one day a replacement when they all went poof.

Even though one motor isn't spinning.  I went ahead and put the vbat connection on, wired in a buzzer and i'm waiting for my new 1190 camera to show up.   I also wired in a serial satellite receiver instead of my big PPM receiver.  There's a lot more room in there now, and I'm guessing it's lighter too.

I'm positive that I won't be able to tell the difference between Oneshot128 and D-Shot 600.   I'm pretty new to this, only really flown an inductrix.  So, new!.  But If i'm going to buy a full set of replacement ESCs, I might as well get the upper line.  I just want the 1 to replace the one that's broken for now, and then If more go out, I'll have a backup full set.

Anyways,
Thank you for the reply!  I appreciate it!

I ended up just ordering a couple of these:

I really hope they work. :Smile Going off of gut that they will.

Hopefully they will make good replacements for my current ones if/when they break.  But, then maybe someday I'll replace all 4 with something better, or just build a new quad.

Thanks!

From my reflashing saga from last month, I'm fairly confident in saying that the Wizard's ESCs are just rebranded Racerstar-RS20A-V2. Under the wrap, the boards should be labeled EFM8B-20A-4S-V1.2 and the MCU should be BB10.

So... Apparently, after some testing, which I should have done earlier... I found it was the FC that was bad:

So.. now I have to see if BG will send me a new FC, or buy a different FC.   Sad, because I already ordered those new ESCs.. which I probably won't need now.   I guess they'll go in the backup box.

but, I'm curious to see if there is a way to fix the FC.  Or, what I could look for to see if it's fixable.  :/    The software thinks it's sending the right signal, via Betaflight.  But, it just doesn't seem to be pushing the signal to the ESC out of the pin.

Anyways.
Thanks for the info, everyone that's answered now.

Woodminster, the newest Betaflight can remap certain resources to other pins. Look into that. For example if the pins for Motor 4 aren't working, move them to Motor 5 (assuming you don't need Motor 5).

Those ESCs will work great on your next build. Smile

Pro tip: Always order one more ESC and one more motor than you need for a build. Then your craft doesn't have to be grounded while you wait for replacement parts.

HOLY SHIZ! to the remapping. [Image: smile.gif] Done and Done. I was able to get it done in probably less than a minute once I saw that post. A quick solder to fix what I changed, and a quick solder to move pin 3 (not working) to the address of pin 5. And bingo. [Image: smile.gif] Now, if I can just find them damn prop nuts to put the props back on and test it! haha [Image: smile.gif]

Thanks dude! Now I have to see if my VTX was broken in shipping, or if It's just supposed to need some soldering!

But Thanks again! You rock!
