Why is everyone switching to X4R-SB from D4R-II

why is everybody so stoked about the FrSky X4R-SB. and why should i switch it out with my x8r

Small, light, 16 Channel SBUS... or PPM if you like... What more can you ask Smile

Also the D4R-II is ppm and is no good for racing because of the larger latency

More and more people are using the XSR, which is even smaller than the X4R, with the same range and feature.

The XSR is marginally smaller than a depinned X4R yes, but for me it has a large drawback in the fact that it's got soldered antennas. I break a lot of antennas, and really like the easy swap you can do with a uFl connector

I've started shrinking them completly with the active element in around a zip tie now. No breakages since that solution was implemented. I also use a thicker zip-tie. Looks very promising, but need to see longevity over time

I'm slightly disappointed with the XSR... My first build with it and I'm having a lot of low rssi alarms... Already moved it away from the vtx with no success.
The readings from taranis is always about 20 points lower than with a D4R-II.
Hope the x4r de-pined has a better performance...

XSR also has problems - people have had range issues, failsafes, low rssi etc. One of the solutions to this is to extend the antenna length to the exact 1/4 wavelength, and according to the people who have done it it fixes all of those problems. However it seems that unless you really don't have the space for a depinned x4r, the XSR doesn't offer anything special.

D4R-II can be flashed to OpenSky if you're willing to take the risk. You get a SBUS-ready receiver in return Smile

I like also the easy way to connect some telemetry to the smart port on the X4R-SB.
