Whoopee Micro Quad :)
#46
Hiya guys n girls
Im just getting the bits together to make a whoopee for my little boy for his 9th birthday.
He only has little hands so im thinking about using a hubsan h107c fc in it so he can use the smaller hubsan tx rather than a full size which he struggles to hold.
i was gonna go all out and buy...

F3 evo micro fc - http://www.banggood.com/Micro-32bits-Bru...70068.html
Flysky micro rx - http://www.banggood.com/FLYSKY-Ultra-Min...88175.html
FS-i6s - http://www.banggood.com/Flysky-FS-i6S-2_...24018.html

But the i6s doesnt support the afhds v1 protocol yet
so its either buy...
wl toys tx - http://www.banggood.com/WLtoys-F949-3CH-...72379.html
or go the hubsan route.
any ideas or comments will be greatly appreciated
thanks
mike

Hey, why don't you get him FS i6? It's smaller than most full-featured TXs. He can use a neckstrap, but I don't think a 9-year old needs that.

Also if you want something really small, inductrix clone Eachine e010 can be a good start on the cheap (REALLY CHEAP!), devention team has made their software compatible with this protocol, so you can use any modded DEVO TX with it in the future. For FPV, this qx90 spare camera/vtx combo should fit - or any other micro combo usable on tiny whoop. Or you can look onto qx90 itself - it had an option to order with flysky RX but I see that is no longer available. You can still buy dasmikro RX for it, but remember that it probably needs firmware flashing to enable failsafe - some tool is required.

If you will ever want to upgrade to a serious board, you can still use e010 frame Smile  but those few videos available now show that it flies pretty well.

EDIT: I just realized you are talking about the woopee not inductrix mod Smile forget what I wrote earlier on eachine and QX (or just transplant QX to a printed woopee).

thanks for the advice and links Big Grin
hes had a hubsan nano and 107 (as have his brothers) so we have a lot of hubsan bits kicking around but i he wants something a bit more "real" (his words) but he does struggle with bigger tx's but loves the hubsan ones especially the nanos as he is tiny even for 9 years old lol
im gonna have to go look into whether deviation fw will ever get ported to the i6s for myself as i already have this tx...thanks for the tip
ive already got the fpv side sorted and there is a pickit 3 kicking about somewhere (oldest son is a nerd too lol)
ive also been looking at cf frames for brushed motors so may just go with one of these ...
110mm h frame - http://www.banggood.com/Eachine-110-110m...64027.html - possibly a bit heavy.
110mm h skeleton - http://www.banggood.com/MI110-110mm-Carb...81031.html - light but possibly very flimsy.
90mm x - http://www.banggood.com/90mm-Carbon-Fibe...55212.html - Looks a good all round frame
i might just build him a proper 150 or so with 1104's etc
thanks for the ideas and links tho

Hi guys,

Just wanted to thank Oscar for his great design and show my build. I first used a SOS frame but this is much safer for the furniture and my girlfriends toes Smile I wanted to share some things with you guys that I havent found on the internet yet ( but is probable there anyway).

Oscar wrote on his component list the FC's that fit the frame but the Multiflite nano FC wasn't included just the new Pico version. To bad for me I have the Nano FC. But I made it fit anyway! So for the ones that have the same FC and don't want to buy a new one: If you remove the 2 middle pins in the middle it wil fit perfectlySmile

Next problem I had is that my RX is still somewhere between here and China and Im using a stripped X4r-sb. I saw in the Build instructions how you can mount the external RX on the back of the quad. Personally I don't really like that. It doesn't look very neat and I prefer to keep everything protected.  So instead I flipped the bottom plate upside down and mounted it. This gives you about half a centimeter in extra space where you can keep the RX.

I also would like to share with you my solution for voltage warning. As some of you may know a buzzer is quit heavy. Personally I hate using timers because its not accurate and you can forget them. To solve this I use a led strip of 1 led. I mounted it on the front of the quad in front of the camera. When you program it as warning it will start blinking led in view of the cam when voltage is to low ( and green when the angle is to big to arm). The total weight of the led is around 0.3 gram depending on wire length. A bit of black nail polish for aesthetics because looks matter Smile

Let me know what you guys think. And thanks again Oscar for the design and your great site!

@mwhalen: If he wants something more real, than maybe a 3" quad is the way to go but remember, that all brushless quads are definately outdoor equipment - maybe except some tiny 2.5" owl style frames. But We start to steal the thread, we should move to a new one Smile  (I somehow missed that it's a woopee thread, sorry).

what material did you print the frame in? ABS?

Thanks Spa that's good to know Smile
I am going to try these buzzer see if they are too heavy (1g)

I have the 110 h frame and have been having tons of fun with it! Couple of caveats - the clearance on the rotors is ~.2mm if things get out of whack they'll catch.  The standoffs are aluminum - I broke mine in a short amount of time but it's still fine with a zip tie.  The motor fit is SUPER tight. It's fabulous for a little while - but I think the heat and tight fit with limited padding eventually tears through the rubber and then it's jelly roll on your video....  THAT BEING SAID - I've dropped this rig from ~20ft onto concrete, crashed a BAZILLION times, and it's still ticking... the ladybird props tied to this build are very tough.

I have the 110mm skeleton in the mail along with the 120mm X. Fingers crossed.

If you're going the SciSky route - you have to your son be very disciplined about disarming on crash (as with many quads) you'll toast the FETs after a few seconds of blocking the motors and not killing the throttle - you'll kill the motor, too. I've replaced a fet or two on this board.

The H frame has A LOT of dead space in places it doesn't need it and not enough in others. If you want to front mount the camera (like a a FX798t) the clearance is like .01 mm.

Is there a multiblade option out there for this amazing quad? Or can it be made?

Does anyone have the skills to remix this AMAZING quadcopter so that it fits some "standard" 3 bladed props like those linked below? Or are there other better multiblade props options?

http://www.banggood.com/H108C-31A-3-Leaf...70931.html

Seems like one of the advantages of the indoor flyer / tiny whoop crazy is that it's quiet ... if the radius is dropped while the depth of the duct maintained I would assume an increase in efficiency ... and these props are much quieter.

Thoughts? Or am I being silly?

I think those props are 46mm in diameter.

Don't get those triblades you linked... they are way tinier than they look in the picture LOL bought them and they are un-useable.
I am trying some other triblades i will report back once i have good luck!

Dawwwwwwwwww :: sadface :: already ordered ... banggood cons me out of another $2.77 ... Smile

Should've known you'd be on the task. Greatly looking forward to seeing the results with fingers crossed.  I feel like, with the 820-15's that banggood sells, that set of props designed to spin at a slower rate with a bigger bite might be good on this indoor flier.  Those ladybird props are awesome but running them indoors is like operating a wood chipper. #winteriscoming

Hi Guys, does anyone know where to get those 1.6mm zip ties Oscar uses? Yes they are on ebay but shipping is 3x the price.

Strangest thing, my wobbling whoopee was down to fc (blade nano qx). Works fine with hubsan fc. Nqx fc wobbles whilst in an inductrix/ TW frame also. Nqx fc works fine in same size builds (90-120mm) without ducts, I don't understand why ducts would make a difference to that fc?

Dumped the Tic Tac canopy and using a dipole in place of the clover leaf antenna as it kept destroying the rear props on crashing! [Image: rolleyes.gif]

46g dry and 65g with the battery...
