Which material to use? PC or ABS
#1
Hello everyone,

I just got a brand new GoPro session and would like to print a mount for my chameleon.

I was thinking about using this  https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2173011

My local university can print print this up for me, but i need to choose the material: ABS or PC

I'd perfer something more durable, but really have no experience with 3D printing.

Which do you think is better for Quad?

Both are quite durable for your purpose, ABS is just a bit more rigid. Id just go with whatever they have on hand

i've printed mine similiar design in PLA, no1 survived till first flights through the woods... but when you hit a tree at almost full speed i understand why it broke no2 is still on the quad flying...

TPU is the way to go - flexible Smile
All the best

Ive never heard of TPU but it looks awesome! Can it work with normal printers?

It depends on the printer's filament feed mechanism. Direct drive printers don't normally have a problem with flexible filaments, but those which have Bowden drive can experience issues.

I got the mount printed using a flexible material that the lab had, i believe its the FLX9585-DM

Its quite flexible, i completely stepped on it and immediately bounced back to shape.

I attached some pictures.

Is this too flexible or will it just tear on a hard roll?

I doubt it, but there's only one way to find out! Smile

It worked very well! I needed to add a battery strap around the outside, it was jiggling too much without it.

The rubbery material acted as a great vibration dampener and there was no jello.

It also survived 2 crashes with absolutely no damage or signs of moving.

Thanks for the help everyone!
