Where Are The Racers?
#16
Ok so this might actually be happening lol. I couldn't believe this guy was selling this thing for like $80 new in box from Texas.

This will be my first racing drone ever. So technically my fleet is complete lol. Instead of dicking around on Velocidrone practicing freestyle, I actually tried racing. An hour later I had no idea where the time went. But my hands were sweaty, my heart rate was elevated, and I was still pissed I couldn't catch my best-lap-ghost competitor. It is oddly addictive ... at least in the sim.

Ok I got racing questions again.

When you get to a thing where there are like 2 gates one on top of the other. Like 2 squares, one on top of the other. How do you know which one to go through first. I think you are supposed to go through one and come back and go back through the other. But do you go through the bottom and back out the top?

I get confused with how I'm supposed to fly around / through compound obstacles like this all the time. Is there liike a standard? Or some tell tale that I am missing like a light or arrow or something?

I know I'm a total mess lol.

there are no rules, allways different tracks makes it more intressting.
not sure if you spoke about the sim or reallife xD indont play veloci
sometimes we put leds on the side of the gate, the side where you have to go throw. generaly if a route is choosen, someone fly it, others watch. if someone getting problems about navigation, anotherone watch his video feed tell him where to go.... its sometimes difficult, as more you do it as more easy it will be to get the route in mind. its very important to know the track, there will come flow around it. how you come out of a turn determinate how fast you can go for the next corner.

It is on like donkey kong.

*  CLRacing F7 + 45A ESC (MPU version)
*  TBS Unify Pro Race (the little one in the black case)
*  TBS Crossfire Nano

I decided I needed to use these spare cameras I have laying around so it'll either be a micro Predator, a micro Cat, or a mini Lumenier edition Runcam Eagle 2 Pro.  Since I'm already so fat anyway and the frame was designed for mini cams, I may just go with the Eagle 2 Pro.  No Gopro or HD cam.

Motors will be the T-Motor BMS Raptor 2000KV on 6S.  These motors ran super hot on my Chameleon Ti so I'm hoping putting it on a proper race build will let it shine.

Super excited.  Should get the parts late in the week.  I'm coming for you Vanover!!!!!!!!!11111 ROFL ROFL ROFL

i received a unify pro race from a buddy wont use it anymore, i guess mostly about the mmcx connector. he is a true racer, he went for unify nano pro32 as a standart.
i still trying the unify race, allready couldnt see a benefit over the tiny nano vtx.
i only have one diopole mmcx antenna xD i shouldnt crash, it shouldnt get damage xD

what capacitator will you use? up to 2000uf wouldnt be bad

what props do you go for?

did you order some gates? two is much more than none xD
it doesnt need a fully track equipment, with a few trees and two gates nice practice tracks can be done. fly in a tight space does improve the skills more than highspeed tracks, its more kindly for the battery and in case of a crash... tiny tracks are good for practice.

to takeover vanover :-) you will need to make this motors very hot again :-)
motors get hot from fast racing, funny how xnova motors get from red into pink overtime xD
be aware about peoples with pink xnova motors ;-)

Thank you for the great feedback, hugnosed!

Really, the only reason I went for it was for the MMCX connector. The Unify Pro Nano has that uFL to SMA connector with the "ears" so you can bolt it on. On this frame, I don't have space for those ears where the SMA adapter would go. I thought about getting a regular uFL to SMA without the ears but then got worried that it's some special TBS uFL or something and didn't want to risk the hassle. All my builds use a VTX with MMCX so its very familiar to me and I have a lot of MMCX adapters. And I figured they are the same price so let's do it.

Same as on my 6S freestyle builds, a 35V 1000uf cap. I also have 50V 1000uf caps. You think I need 2000uf? Thanks for the heads up on this!

I'm awful with prop picking. I pick what I think looks cool lol. I also like to use the same props across builds to save money. Right now, I've got some Azure Power Vanovers, Azure Power Johnny Freestyles (lol am I a fanboi or what), and T-Motor 5147 or 5143 not sure which.

BAHAHAHA I was just googling this!!! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

My little park near me does have a lot of trees and metal garbage cans I have been using when I take a break from freestyle and pretend to be a racer. But I think I'll look into a couple gates based on your recommendation which makes good sense.

I was just planning to give him a wet willy in the middle of the race. ROFL

Racing question ...

Its a gate that looks like 1 square on top of the other. I'm supposed to go through the top one and come back through the bottom one immediately. So far I am just yaw turning 180 like a bank robber trying to outrun a cop just before I get through the top gate and I descend and yaw out through the bottom. Is this how most people do gates like this?

Or are you actually split-s'ing from the top to bottom?? That is such a tight space to split-s LOL.

i dont own gates by myself, never bought some. i like the runcam gates, my buddy own a few.
they aren specialy rigid, not specialy high quality or somthing, they are smaller than others - they arent quality but like the most gates i know - but i like them about the two sized gates in one, there is never a need to go on the track they just fall over and they tiny gate is standing in the worst case, they are pretty small to carry.
https://shop.runcam.com/runcam-airgate/

some add 2000uf, i choose 1000uf and somtimes i add a second 470uf. some buddies use large 2000uf caps for their 6s settups. there cant be enough xD i cant suggest it by own experience.
it would be intresting do see a comparison about it, probably it could be visable in balckbox log?
if there would be more needed than 1000uf, i guess your 2000kv motors could be a candidate for 2000uf - just beleiving.

I will try with 35V 1000uf and go from there. I am lucky there is an electronics store not too far and they always carry all sorts of good quality capacitors. Thanks for the heads up on this cos it's one area I never gave any thought to.

Yea I was thinking of DIYing some gates but the convenience of being able to collapse them like that and carry them away in their own case is compelling. Still, I'll wait till I fly it a bit and at least get sorta good weaving around trees and garbage cans.

P.S. Snow, that's not it man. In Velocidrone I actually have to go in through the top and back through the bottom. The spiraling move in the video goes in through the top and in again at the bottom. The gate doesn't count it if I go like that. So I am just sliding 180 into it, dropping and gunning it out the bottom lol. I can't imagine split-s'ing such a tight change in altitude lol.
