What's In A Name?
#1
Why did you choose your username?  Is there a story behind it?  Any meaning?  Or just because it sounded cool to you?

I've used this name for quite some time now in this and other hobbies. I'd much prefer simply "ronin" but of course that's tough to come by so I added the "the." purely for that purpose - and not necessarily to imply that there can be only one lol.

A ronin is a samurai who for one reason or another lost their master. They are masterless samurais. This is the reason for the popular Deniro movie that goes by this name - he was an ex-agent, a warrior without a master.

My favorite story of all time is that of the 47 ronin. I find this website has the best, summary of this true story of unwavering loyalty by these 47 samurai ... https://www.samurai-archives.com/ronin.html

The short of it is, these samurais' leader was murdered unjustly but in such a way that the perpetrator got away with it. They bided their time waiting many years and bearing insults that they were nothing but has beens, losers, and cowards ...

Quote: On one occasion, a samurai from Satsuma is supposed to have come across Ôishi drunk in the street and spat upon him, saying that he was no real samurai.

When the time was right, every single ronin gathered together and exacted their revenge. They presented the perpetrators head to the emporor while at the same time turning themselves in for punishment - sepuku or ritual suicide.

Quote:The assassination of Kira placed the government in a difficult situation. After all, the 46 survivors now awaiting their fate had lived up to the standards of loyalty expected of true samurai and the ideals propounded by such men as Yamaga Soko.

The tombstones of the 47 ronin can still be honored to this day at Sengakuji in Tokyo, Japan.

Quote:Legend has it that the Satsuma samurai who had spit upon Ôishi in the street came to the temple and slit his own belly to atone for his insults.

Love the question/topic,  Ronin.

Mine came to be from a much different world than most my age, more on that in a second.

I tend to like to keep my screen name the same across many internet topics.  For the longest time my screen name was ghillie, from ghillie suit.  Although police snipers typically don't use ghillie suits, it seemed a decent name that had some meaning to my life/work life.

Later, ghillie got a negative response on some pages from those who were against the underlying meaning.  This is much like my wife's screen name here on the forum "Pink Mist", most people tend to take offense to that name for somewhat understandable reasons coming from a position of being uneducated on the topic.

So I come to Krohsis.  That was dreamed up from my early days on the game World of Warcraft.  My son and daughter recruited me into WoW many years ago.  At that time one of my character profiles was undead.  I came up with the name for my undead character from the term necrosis.  I still play WoW but have moved to Alliance and my character, Krohsis hasn't been played in 8+ years.

Love that!! The "House of Ronin" was an ironic and incidental clan from the days of Ghost Recon on the PC. Ironic in that none of us wanted to be in a clan and incidental in that I never wanted to lead a clan but the guys I played with decided to form a clan around my server which was the House of Ronin - players for the-non-clan LOL.

I learned electronics and how to use a computer on the good ol Raspberry Pi. My nickname is to always keep that part of me there and every time I read it, I am reminded of those days when I was greeted by the "pi@raspberrypi" with cables dangling from every which way Smile I guess the Raspberry Pi just has a special place in my life due to its importance in getting me into electronics. This passion led me into building quad copters and other flying machines. Eventually, I saw Charpu's famous video that we all know, and I was hooked (like we all know...) Big Grin  Oscar Liang was one of the first legitimate resources that weren't just trying to get ad revenue or do silly toy quad copter reviews. Also, Propwashed.com was the other resource I used. I used to literally print out webpages and study them, Betaflight tutorials, and build guides. I read them before going to bed and had a whole stack of articles lined up under my bed! When I heard about the forum, I joined in an instant!
If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!

Scotty is my real name. My surname starts with "O". I used to use scottyo as a screen name, but it started being used by other people, so I just prepended my three initials to create "sloscotty". (It has grown on me - and I am one who can't be hurried, so it sorta fits.)

I really wanted a much cooler name but while registering I could not think of one.

so roger is my name and 74 is just a number to allow me to keep roger.  I'm 'older' but not quite that old yet.

Snow Leopard, because it's an animal that is solitary by nature and is a hardy / elusive creature. A bit like me Big Grin It's also an animal which comes from a region of the world that I have connections with Smile and because I just think that they're one of the more exclusive and cooler members of the cat family Cool

Maiden flight because I came accross this expression so many times reading forums and blogs, and maybe because I'm not a native english speaker, it really has a nice sound to me. Also because since I made my first 5'' build this expression holds a nice feeling to me because it always feel like the first flight. I have few hours of flight, so I really get that rush everytime.
My initial name when I started with toy quads was and is BankingTurns (on RCG) because of the movement that is initial hard to overcome on LOS newbie like I was (and am Smile ), but it was really important for making hard and smooth turns.
So not really personal history behind it but those were the reasons.

we all was waiting for this question xD
i like tiny quads, it is the smallest mammalian and it can fly. bats fly awesome, they are fast, there wasnt a lot of studies or research, what we know is: the mexican bullnose bat can fly 160kmh/100mph (they arent small as the hugnosed bat) straightline speed and they are very agile in the air, they can breaking speed instantly, they fly at highspeed to the entrence of a den and stop immediatly in the air to a very low speed. they are one of the fastest animals in the air, the fastest mammalian. their flystyle is near to us quads...
i am a huge bat fan x-)

i had a flying bat on a dvr onetime, i was on the ground prepared to arm the quad, a black point was shoot throw the picture - there wouldnt be a possibility for humans to be as fast in the air as a bat. they afe like fast reaction flys but with speed, incredible fastinating. they dont see with the eyes but their oriantation works x-) what an animal x-)
they are curios about quads, the flew near me one time, they flew slow like me. i landed and luckly hadnt an crash with them. do not fly if there is a bat, they are to fast to care about, avoid them during a flight...

as i see them as predators about flyabilities in the air, i wish i could fly like a small bat.

as they are little monsters they kill and eat us biggest enemy, the animal which kills the most humens inderectly; the mosquitos - bats are goood xD
