What cam for Chameleon build?
#1
What is the best cam to fit the Chameleon head? (That will not stick out the front)

I was thinking of getting a Runcam Split to negate the need for a gopro.

1. Will it fit?
2. Split 1 or 2? (Split v2 = $110 | Split v1 = $51 ... is the v2 worth $59 more?)

Also, if you have previously built a Chameleon, your input will be greatly appreciated.

I'm interested in the answers to xcalibur's questions too. I was ready to get a Runcam Split 2 for the Rooster, but got talked out of it because it has a high failure rate?

I have Swift II in mine.  Fits perfectly and the lens does not protrude past the cage. I don't know anything about the split's reliability, but the Chameleon is a low profile build and I would make sure you have room to fit it on the stack and still get the top plate on.

That is good to know! I have a Swift 2 RR I can donate from another build, but I think I might need to get the shorter lens?

My build will have individual ESC's and a CL Racing F4S AIO, so there should be space in the stack for a split.

Mine has the stock lens that came on the camera, but I don't remember what that is and I'm not home at the moment. I think they came with either a 2.3 or a 2.8 mm lens...I think.

The RR edition came with the RC25G / 2.5mm.

For the price though, I think the Split V1 is a good option for this build....and it doesn't leave my 250 without a cam.

Any standard size will fit and gets protection from the cage. If you are not going with the Split, the Eagle 2 Pro is a great camera. The stack height is very limited (21mm), so you will likely only get FC and split on a stack. So no 4in1 ESC.

GoPro mounts very well on the Chameleon. If you go the GoPro route, makes sure your lipo is 1300mah or less. 1500mah lipo stick out the back too much with a GoPro.

Just did a dry fit and the Swift 2 RR fits perfectly. Full protection from about 25 degrees. Even with its longer lens.

I will be using ESC’s on the arms so the stack will support a second board.

My Runcam HD sticks out way too far when mounted on the cam mount and will be susceptible to some serious hits.

GoPro is beyond my budget, so now the question is...v1 Split at $51 or splurge on the v2 for $110?

Is the v2 worth the $59 more?

Based on Oscar's review/comparison of V1 and V2,  I would spend the extra cash....

Not in South Africa. Add shipping, VAT and duties and it comes to $101. Buy it from local hobby / quad shops and pay $118.

Yeah...the V2 definitely seems to be a better option. Will have to delay my build as I can't find local stock.
