Albert Kim has posted the following video warning of this potential issue... • Posts: 373 Threads: 29 Likes Received: 279 in 168 posts Likes Given: 242 Joined: Nov 2017 Reputation: 6 Good to know. 3.4 hasn't caused me any issues but there are a lot of people that have had major issues. I wonder if this is related to the earlier JB video about overheating motors using an older configurator? I've seen some reviews from people that had issues with 3.4 trying 3.5 and it seems like 3.5 will be the version to clear this up. • Posts: 1,773 Threads: 30 Likes Received: 1,199 in 755 posts Likes Given: 714 Joined: Oct 2016 Reputation: 45 I think the problem is that we are used to our quads flying OK with BF default settings, and that isn't the case anymore IMO. I have 3 totally different quads (3", 5" and 6") that flew nicely. Just updated to 3.4 and all 3 came down with motors super hot. Same with 3.5 Seems we were on a trend for a while where BF was becoming more user friendly, that trend seems to have reversed now. My only suggestion to anyone struggling with getting a decent tune is to read the Github tuning tips. over and over... https://github.com/betaflight/betaflight...flight-3.4 Dude, where's my quad? However, I'm not running the stock tune, I backed up my config and loaded it back in after updating. I'll have to go burn a few packs soon and double check. • Posts: 3,533 Threads: 265 Likes Received: 2,610 in 1,545 posts Likes Given: 3,893 Joined: Feb 2018 Reputation: 78 09-Aug-2018, 03:32 PM (This post was last modified: 09-Aug-2018, 03:38 PM by Krohsis.) Thanks for the post SLFPV, and the link RENOV8R.....oh, thanks for the headache RENOV8R, that GitHub link did me in.... • Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 Thank you for the PSA! I loaded 3.4 onto The Bug on Monday and had been trying to tune out the overheating 1106 motors. Never were an issue before...suddenly they are :/ Well, 3.5 should be here soon enough. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! Addicted :) • Posts: 438 Threads: 53 Likes Received: 378 in 189 posts Likes Given: 223 Joined: Jul 2018 Reputation: 18 Hmm I have 3.4 in my 5" quad and 3.4.1 in my tiny whoop URUAV UR65 and I have no issues whatsoever - I'd even say that at least on the 5" the motors are now less warm even though I'm doing more crazy stuff with it. I can't compare the whoop since loading the 3.4.1 was the first thing I did when I got the quad, but even when I was flying outside and punching quite a lot, the motors were only slightly warm. So I guess it really depends on the exact setup and tune. Also I have to say that in both quads I started with a stock tuning and followed the guide in GitHub to tune it a little. • Posts: 5,323 Threads: 674 Likes Received: 3,160 in 1,747 posts Likes Given: 2,032 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 I haven't had issue with 3.4 on my 5" quad. No vibration/oscillation issues, motors are not hot either. There was a bug in the older configurator related to incorrect filter default value. It was fixed in the latest version. • Posts: 21,253 Threads: 587 Likes Received: 8,962 in 6,632 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 787 According to JB in his latest video, this filtering issue affecting micro quads should now be fixed in Betaflight 3.5. Maybe I have something turned off that others have turned on? Guess it won't matter if 3.5 resolves it. • |
