VTX drop outs on flips and rolls only?!
#1
Question
Hi guys,

FPV beginner here. A few days ago I built myself a sub 250 quad. Everything works nicely (astounding) using the following setup:

- BetaFPV Toothpick F4 2-6S AIO BLHeli_32 35A
- BetaFPV 2004 3000kv motors with 5125 props
- RunCam Split Nano 3 FPV HD for Whoop
- TBS Crossfire Nano Receiver RX
- TBS Unify PRO32 NANO V1.1 5G8 VTX
- running on 4s

The quad flies quite nice if I fly mallow, but I have on major issue. On snappy flips and rolls I get VTX drop outs for a fraction of a second. Slow rolls and turns and even full
punch outs are no problem though.

I uploaded an DVR recording (with subtitles) from my goggles where it is visible.

Both the camera and the VTX are connected to the 5V pad on the FC.

I am using XT30 connectors so I initially only had a small build-in 25v 220uF cap inside. I figured that might not suffice, so I soldered on an additional 35v 680uF cap that came
with the AIO.

But still I get these drop outs.

I double checked all the wiring and the VTX is firmly attached to the canopy using a TBS Nano Toothpick Mounting Board. The antenna is strapped down with a cable tie.
I also tried twisting it in my hand (with props off of course) as hard as I could and even banged the frame on the table to simulate high g-forces. But the image was fine all the time.

I now suspect the issue has to do with the voltage spikes that the braking of the motors send backwards? Could an even bigger cap (1000uF) help with that?

What else could be try to get rid of the drop outs?

My next steps would be:

- try bigger cap on power leads
- try additional smaller cap on the 5v rail
- power the VTX through a 5v step-down directly from battery

Any thoughts and suggestions would be highly appreciated!
