VOLITANT 191 6S
#1
As per usual its another super light build, 191mm motor to motor I'm currently using the 4mm frame version which weighs 40g with aluminium hardware and holding up nicely.
 Estimated 30g for 3mm and 50g for 5mm versions.

I knew I wanted it to be quick as it is light build and had no cares for efficiency so thought I'd see how the new r5 2207s in 2700kv would cope with 6s, and so far from the flights I've had it looks very promising. Also nice to have a higher kv and have the option to limit max throttle for efficiency or open it up for stupid speeds.

First 4in1 40a failed after a few flights no idea why, I've never been a fan of 4in1s so swapped to separate spedix 30a 3-6s escs and threw 4 1000uf 35v low esr panasonic caps on there which cleaned up the video nicely, no idea how I would have added them to the 4in1

Couldn't find the 6s packs I wanted so made my own from two tattu 3s 1050 75c packs, they are almost identical in size and weight as a tattu 4s 1550 75c pack

Frames are now available on my Armattan productions page if anyone wants to rip one of these!

One 6s pack with some beaten up dal 5045 v2 biblades

6s ? It should be pretty daemon on full throttle.

Yeah its pretty crazy, the noise genuinely hurts my ears to full throttle punch out lol

I only fly freestyle so I haven't done many long sustained full throttle runs on it yet but its so fun having explosive acceleration on tap when needed!

I'm pretty sure some higher amp esc's could offer some more top end still as these are only 30a, no idea how they haven't combusted yet  Big Grin

you are crazy! Big Grin 2700KV on 6S?!
I am building a 6S too, but only using 1700KV 2207.

Very clever ideal of merging two 3S batteries... I got some 6S 1300mah and 1050 from Tattu and see how they do.

Haha or I'm just an idiot   ROFL Love seeing what limits motors can handle though and damn impressive these motors don't melt as the calculate prop tip speed is like mach 1.3 lol, not that it will ever ever even come close to mach 1 but it is ear splittingly loud!

1700kv on 6s should be almost identical performance as 2700kv on 4s and should be a really great combination with the 1050 6s Thumbs Up

I thought about the low kv route at first but afaik a higher kv motor can be just as efficient as a lower kv as long as you limit the throttle to the equivalent motor rpm as a lower kv (not that I'm likely to)  Rolleyes Big Grin

Tip speed of Mach 1.3!   ROFL

If you did get the prop to spin that fast, it would probably just explode!

BrotherHobby really do make some incredible motors. I was blown away by how powerful the Tornado T1 1407 motors were on my Japalura so now I have four of these ready for my Rooster build.

Haha yeah I should think so! maybe someone should make some aluminium super sonic propellers  Big Grin

In all seriousness I couldn't agree more that t1 1407 for its size and weight is probably one of the most impressive motors I've ever seen, and is partly why I suspected the r5 2207 would handle 6s at such a stupid kv as I used to run the 1407 3600kv on 4" and 5s without overheating

I almost went for the 2306 myself, they should be great, I have no idea what is better for 5" 2207 or 2306 would love to compare both though Thumbs Up

I actually have two builds that I need to get done now.

One is the GepRC Leopard which I'm powering with Cobra 2207 2450kv motors and the other is the Rooster which I'll be powering with the BH R5 2306 2450kv motors. So, two quads with similar weight and 5" props on 2450kv motors with just the stators making the difference in the propulsion system.

It should be an interesting comparison!

All I need for the Rooster build is for the ESCs to arrive. I've got everything for the Leopard build except for the inclination to clean off my work bench and finish soldering everything together.
It's hard to summon enthusiasm for finishing a new build when you know that you'll probably just be looking at it for another three months before it gets warm enough to go out and fly!

Do you do full throttle on video somewhere? Just want to see this "explosive acceleration on tap" in action. ((:

If I had all the parts I couldn't resist I'd have to build it all then and there asap! Tongue yeah tell me about it all I've seen is rain, sleet and stupid winds and then today I try to fly and its so foggy you got even see from 10 seconds of mist on the lens Sad

haha yeah at 0:25 1:25 and 2:03 in the video but there isn't much scale to show speed in an empty field, if and when the weather lightens up i'll get some more footage

weather not much better and the same local spot but had a little surprise with a herd of deer, didn't wanna chase them too long though, also tried dal 5051c triblade on 6s which feel really nice still slowly tuning only put around 10-15 pracks through this thing so far
