Video Editing Softwear......
#1
Hi Folks....

I don't wanna flog a dead horse as I think this has been covered before, but I have not been able to find the thread.  I have been using a video editing program called Filmora by Wondershare for all my video editing.  Well I went to install it on my laptop (already on the desktop and runs without issue) and I got it installed and it ran fine.....until I shut it down and tried to restart it again later.  Windows issued a "Bad Image" error.  Sooooo......contacted the vendor and they tell me it's an issue with my virus software (McAfee) and that I need to shut it down and use something else.  Ummmmmm...I DON"T THINK SO.  I'm not about to drop my virus software (for which I have paid for a three year subscription) because THEIR software has a design flaw.

Along with all the "normal stuff", I need to be able to take two separate videos, sync them and show them simultaneously on a split screen.  I know there is stuff out there that will do this, but I would like to be able to do it without having to sell my first born to afford it (if there is no other way, my first born better hide). Big Grin

Thanks folks...appreciate the input!

LOL! Softwear sounds like a new brand of very technological and soft shoes.

Have you tried Shotcut? Free, you can export in 4k and have all the features you described....

Blender will do it - and it's free!
See this thread for a link to an intro tutorial: http://intofpv.com/t-blender-video-sequence-editor

There are many other tutorials on using the Blender Video Sequence Editor, but this one (#1) is a good start for setup, etc. (He's also got a good one on split screen effects, where he is on the screen twice - not sure that's what you want, but it's got some good tips anyway.)

BTW, his split screen tutorial is #3. It's a good idea to watch #2 first to get a better idea about the input / output stuff.

I personally am still a fan of Vegas. No not the town that my name is based on, the video editing software. (although anyone who knows me knows that I love the town too)

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum is $50 right now and I am almost certain it can do what you're trying to do just with the included tools. I've just started working with FX and pan and zoom myself though so I haven't done exactly what you're describing yet.

Anyway... most first borns are going for more than 50$ these days so I figure it's less, but it's still more pricy than a free option like the one that scotty and gianpa posted.

I'm gonna keep pushing Blender.  Big Grin

Here's a video I made with it about 6 or 7 years ago.  I spent a lot of time splitting and syncing the video to the music.  I'd do a few things differently now (like fades and stuff), but I was really pleased at how fine-grained one was able to work with Blender.  (And it's got a bunch more cool features now...)

Ill check it out his evening.......specifically, I want to show two separate videos taken by two separate cameras of the same thing.  I need to show those simultaneously on a split screen.  The main hang up I've had so far is that the videos start at different  times and I need to sync them so they are showing the same thing at the same time.  I could do this in Filmora (even though it wasen't straight forward), but now that Filmora is no longer an option, I need something else and maybe Blender is what I'm looking for....we'll see  Smile  Thanks Scotty!

Even the free version of Hitfilm 4 Express is pretty amazing. Here's a tutorial, you'll be surprised what it can do

Ok Guys.....verdict is in......

Gianpa...I liked Shotcut's simplicity.  However, I  couldn't find where it would do a split screen, and occationally it would crash my machine Sad

Scotty....Blender...Unquestionably the most capable of the group.  Also the steepest learning curve of the group.  Currently I dont need that much power and don't have the time to learn it right now.  I will hold on to it for when I have a little more time though.

Carl.....I did look a Vagas, but what I need can be done with software that is free.  I told my daughter she was safe (she didn't think it was funny.... Big Grin)  I'll keep it in mind for the future.

RENOV8R  Looks like hitfilm 4 express is the one.  I like the way it handles the data flow, it's not too complicated and of course, it's free.

I really appreciate the responses guys, it really helped me out! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

That means I should have tried to convince you that you didn't need your kid in order to win... lol...

I am glad you found a good solution!
