Using a old aio fc as a wireless sim controller
#1
Bardwell did a video a while ago on how to use a old aio fc as a wireless “dongle” for controllers in a simulator.
It’s fairly simple.. just a cli command and ur good to go (set usb_his_cdc = on) then “save”…now u can just plug the fc into the usb and ur controller uses the rx to connect.. pretty cool huh?
I did this with 2 old FCs both toasted ESCs and they work as a wireless connection “as advertised” the problem I have is .. betaflight no longer recognizes these FCs when plugged in.. it will connect if I used the boot loader button.. it goes into DFU but that’s it.. no access to anything . I may try a firmware update, but BF firmware targets don’t show as before..
This is just a “why did this happen” question and WHY can’t it be reversed… say I used a GOOD AIO.. I would be a little upset.. especially for how much they are now
Anyone have any ideas?

Something similar was reported previously: https://github.com/betaflight/betaflight...ssues/2859

Seems like the suggestion was to do enable show all serial devices option or flash back the firmware with a full chip erase.

Albert Kim mentioned this in his description..says to change back BEFORE. You unplug the usb.. or u will have to reinstall firmware on the fc…

Here is the straight poop.. YES, it can be “reversed”.. you need to get the fc into DFU mode (press button -plug in).. now here is the IMPORTANT part!
You need to know what ur firmware target is!!! It doesn’t show up anywhere so u better know what it is BEFORE u do the change!!!
Luckily I have plenty of tinyhawks so that one was easy.. HOWEVER, the “Play f4” fc I had was a little more difficult .. had to do some “GOOGLING”.. found the firmware was NOX…
Reason I say this is ..YOU NEED TO HAVE THE CONTROLLER BOUND BEFORE U MAKE THE CLI CHANGE.. for spi intergrated RXs ..
The spi rx won’t bind after u make the cli change..

Bardwell to the rescue!! It’s things like this I don’t mind subscribing to his patron account.
In options of betaflight ..turn on / enable all serial devices..
I did it, the fc did not respond as normal.. but I just went to the cli.. set usb_hid_cdc = off. Full access to the fc again..

I did mention that in my first reply to enable show all serial devices option.

But glad you figured it out.

Yes you did.. but unfortunately I had no idea what or where you were talking about.. the “visual” made more sense with me… reading compression is something I have struggled with my whole life.
