Turnigy 9x + simulator = Does it work ?
#1
Hi!

Recently I've been trying to connect my heavily modded Turnigy 9x to FPV Freerider simulator but having no signal issue.

- Firmware: OpenTX 2.1.9
- Turnigy works in Slave mode (Trainer)
- DJT module disconnected
- Turnigy turned off
- Measured voltage at trainer jack : it's 4.75 V when in PPM protocol and 0,1 V after switching to PPMSIM protocol in model settings.
- installed newest vJoy drivers
- installed SmartPropoPlus which is not showing any values on the input. Getting "Transmitter disconnected" in Tranmitter tab.

I've spent a day debugging the issue without further success
Please help Sad

I found 2 different versions of "tutorials" on our FB group regarding using 9X in FPV simulators, does any of these help?

Quote:Install smartpropoplus or ppjoy to have windows recognize the Turnigy as a "GamePad" or "Controller".

Use a 3.5mm audio male to male cable and plug the Turnigy into the PC via the line-in or mic jacks.

Configure smartpropo or ppjoy, once Windows recognizes the device, run through the gamepad configuration tool provided by windows to calibrate your sticks and assign switches, etc.

Quote:I should note that my 9X is flashed with OpenTX. If you have the stock firmware, I can't really help you assign channels, that's on you. That firmware is pretty awful.

I am using a $6 trainer cable to USB adapter from Ebay.

First things first, this sim does NOT tell you that it sees your PPM input device (what Device Manager says your adapter cable as). Instead, you need to select Xbox 360 control as your input once in the sim.

If you have an actual Xbox controller connected, disconnect it prior to launching the sim.

Oddly, when the Xbox controller option is selected in the sim, inputs from your PPM device are accepted. Now the tricky part here was finding out which channels on 9X you need to assign the different functions to that Freerider will understand.

I created a new model then deleted ALL the channel assignments for each stick. Then I went down channel by channel assigning my throttle stick to each until I got the quad to react to the throttle. This was channel 2, and I had to reverse it. Aileron was channel 5, Elevator channel 6 (had to reverse it), Reset quad channel 7 (i used the spring loaded trainer switch) and rudder (yaw) channel 8.

Your PPM adapter cable might change things up but the process to make it work should be similar.

Hi Oscar,

Thanks for the useful hints.
I was actually poking with HK usb sim dongle till late night and I was able to make it work actually. Smile
In my case:
- protocol in Turnigy 9x had to set to PPM (NOT PPMSIM) to make it work BUT Smile

I had weird issue with Freerider - calibration worked for 3 sticks out of 4.

I have fixed that by uninstalling vJoy drivers and SmartProtoPlus software.

After restarting Fpv Freerider all 4 sticks were recognized correctly.

I hope those information would be useful for anyone who still have Turnigy 9x box Wink

Hey guys sorry to bump an ol;d thread but I'm having issues...

Trying to connect the my iRangeX TX (fs-i6X clone) to smartpropo plus
Despite Smartptopo plus website saying that you will be running 5 mins from reading their 'start here' page I have been at this all day!

As per the photo below, I took a headphone socket from an old PC front plate, soldered the 2 points (on the trainer port board) shown and glued the 3.5mm jack socket and connected a mini jack from the TX to the mic port on my laptop. It didn't work, no response from Smartpropo Plus.
So I made a stereo jack run 1 mono channel, by shorting the other wire,  still no joy!
My new laptop only has a headset audio port, so I hacked the headphones / mic cable from my old phone, disconnected the headphones, and the mic, used the mic pads to solder wires direct from the points show in the photo, still no luck.

I reset factory defaults on the TX and re-flashed updated FW, even though the FW version remains the same

I am in trainer mode, as per instructions here, I created a new model, tried PPM on SBUS and iBUS as well as AFHDS and AFHDS-2A still getting nothing, starting to think that this bloody TX has been the problem all along..!?

Anyone got any other ideas, please..?

I use the Flysky I6 on simulators with this cable - https://www.banggood.com/Flight-Simulato...mds=search

You could just buy that and avoid the hacking, but I get that sometimes that's part of the fun Tongue

I will check the pin out of mine when I get some time today. It's possible that you've got the connections incorrect, they are not laid out in a way that makes any sense.
