Trouble Tuning BLHeli_S with 2550kv Motors
#1
FYI: Unfortunately in the middle of the tuning process (5 min after this video) my quad went haywire and took the tip of my finger off so you have any follow-up tasks for me it may be a bit delayed since I'm dealing with stitches and such. Watch out for Betaflight 2.9!

Ok so here's my youtube video with blackbox overlay focused on Roll Axis. I'm trying to learn to tune via blackbox and I was hoping someone could point out what I'm looking for exactly in my video.

Here's my build:
DetroitMultiRotor V0rtX True X Frame
RMRC Dodo 4k/4k
DYS 2205 2550kv motors
ZTW Flash 30A ESC
BLHeli_S with the A-H-20 Firmware
Betaflight 2.9

Sorry to hear of your mishap Rosco, that sucks.

Did the quad bite you while in BF ?  Just want to know how it bit you...being that we should all remove props when plugging in BF/CF with Lipo power.

As to why it went haywire is a bit out of my league, I am hopeless when it comes to reading Blackbox recordings, I do know that there are plenty of members that have excellent blackbox diagnostic skills here, and will be more than happy to help you. Smile .

Rest easy.

No I was carrying it back to the computer there in my garage and it came on and went crazy. Ripped out of my hand and into the garage wall taking a bit of my finger on the way. Another person I fly with had this happen yesterday morning when tuning betaflight 2.9 so maybe there's something to that. I'll definitely be better about pulling my batteries going forward. No reason to walk around with the quad in my hand and the battery plugged in.

Hmmmm, Only things off the top of my head are

1. The radio was turned off before unplugging the lipo and caused a failsafe (in some cases failsafe causes the motors to burst into life for a few seconds before shutting them off.)

2.  Failsafe started because it just lost signal with the radio.

3. Accidentley armed via switch or sticks and throttle was pushed up by accident

But check out failsafe in BF as first port of call.

I noticed strange throttle behaviour on my blheli_s ESCs too. Every time when I "save and reboot" in BF it fires throttle (40-50% by the sound of it) twice for 1 second and then xracer beeps in a standard way. Good I take props off every time I plug the damned thing in.

But to be honest, this can actually be xracer 3.0 behaviour on BF 3.0 as 2.9 link was dead when was flashing, I'm not sure. I fiddled with min_command and min_check and it still happens... I didn't notice it on the naze32 earlier.

It only does that on the bench during config, I pushed 8 packs trough it and it is all good when it's "live".
Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: DRC Aura, NOX5R, Minimalist 112 and drive a scrap RC car

Yeah I'm switching to a dual-arm system going forward just in case that was it. I was carrying my transmitter and it may have brushed my pants. Anyway.. Anyone got any advice on my tuning video? I'm more-so here to try and get my quad tuned while flying, away from my fingers! Smile

Wow......can't help much with the tuning issue, but that really sucks that you were hurt.  I've had 'em throttle up on me but I've never lost any skin...yet.  Usually with me it's because I forget and cut the transmitter off before unplugging and the failsafe kicks in.

In any case, feel better !

I been dealing with this problem for the past week or so, ever since I put my DYS XS30 and DYS SE2205-2550kv motors on my QAV. it would fly fine for a while then out of no where it would flip out and drop to the ground. I tried switching all kinds of settings in BLHeli and nothing. so I was finally able to find 2 solutions that worked. I went from multishot to oneshot42, or I lowered my loop time from 4K/4K to 2K/2K and stayed on multishot. I'm using a SP Racing F3 V.1 board.
