Travel cases
#1
We are big RVers, and do a lot of traveling.  This  one of the reasons we like FPV, particularly long range stuff.  We will be able to fly at new and different places and see lots of cool stuff.

I wanted to get some cases for the transmitters (2) and current quads (3) so things didn't get messed up while traveling.  Many of the cases can get pricey, and buying a bunch of them right now (5) at the prices some case go for was going to hit my quad budget too much, so I started looking for less expensive options.  The cases below are what I came up with.  They are decently built and will serve my purpose well.  I don't think I would have them go into checked bagage on a plane as that might be too much for them to handle.  But they will do good in an RV, back of the pickup or in the trunk of a car.   They are big enough for 6 inch props on my 270 (not shown), and deep enough for my vertical VTX antenna and still have foam protection. I will likely remove the props for transport, but if you don't want too, you won't have too.  The price for them are about 1/2 or less of what a typical plastic case goes for, and much less than an aluminum case.  They are made by Plano, a reputable company.  The place I bought from shipped fast as well.  I ordered yesterday morning and got them this afternoon.

Now I have to get busy and cut foam for everything....that part sucks a bit...

Hey Oscar, recognize anything? Big Grin

They have cases on amazon with “customizable foam inserts”. Essentially it’s a bunch of foam, cut into 1 inch or 1/2 inch cubes, so you can take out what you need for stuff to fit. I assume a spray glue of some sort would allow it to remain spongy but keep it all together.
They go for around 30-50 each.
That said for the price these look amazing!
I don’t have much, but might pick up one or two of these for my mini, tx, batteries, and charger.

The cases I got for the radios came with the "cube cut" version.  Unknown why the ones I got for the quads didn't come that way...

Hard case for travel is a pretty good idea!

I currently use a backpack and carry-on. All my stuff fits neatly inside. For the quad itself I use the external webbing with some velcro strips. TX is protected in a FrSky EVA case.

(pretty old quad setup, but you get the idea)

That's a good price Krohsis! I use one of those for my main quad. If you have a Bass Pro or a Cabella's nearby, you can usually pick one up there for $20.

ya know... maybe this is why my quads always seem to be falling apart... I figure, since I beat them against trees, gates, the ground, walls, etc anyway... they can probably stand to just be tossed into a suit-case with some clothes lol... I almost never protect my quads... actually I don't protect my radio like I should either and as a result I need to get new switches for it. ha ha ha... my equipment is pretty tore up...

This would definitely be a good way to stop tearing my stuff up!

I am more likely to travel long distance on a plane than in an RV (since I don't own an RV) and checked luggage is a premium... and of course carry-on is for batteries :p but still... maybe for quick trips down the road this could be rather useful!

All I have done is hover them in the garage.  We are having a big wind storm right now.  Sustained in the 40s, and gusts to 60mph.  I'm not gutsy enough to fly in that.  Looking forward to flying with them.  They definitely get an award for coolness! Smile

Not necessarily the smoothest props, but they do sound pretty unique too Big Grin You will be surprised Big Grin

I think we went you that wind from here in socal...sorry about that!  It was not that severe here, maybe gusts of 30 or so.  It was actually fun to fly in!  Great practice for fast reaction skills Big Grin

Too bad those are not flamed pink!

As for cases, the local dive shop carries Pelican brand and they have all the sizes.  While having an old regulator serviced, noted their selection and the options presented.  They are water resistant, very tough and come on a variety of colors.

They tend to be a bit pricey, but they are some of the best available.

You know, I was thinking the same thing!   Big Grin

As far as the wind, I will get there some day....but I want to keep my no crash record until I make it to 100 flights.  If the wind backs off that could happen soon.

I have a couple Pelican cases for my other hobby, and you're right, they are very pricey.  Those two that I have are over 400.00 each.  Now that I'm retired, I tend to look for less expensive options that will get the job done.
