Toothpick added to the fleet
#1
Just put the first flights into my 2.5'' newcomer.
This quad flies really well  Big Grin

I can really feel the differences from my other 5'', and the momentum talk is real because this thing is feather light altough is such a blast flying in other places than remote trees and dirt lands and still have power and flight time.
I'm really surprised with these first flights.

Yep the 2.5" quads are awesome. Mines on the workbench waiting parts and I really miss it. Great video

Yep toothpicks are awesome and everyone should get one. Just upgraded mine with a proper vtx (rush tiny tank) but have not been able to fly yet.

They are so lightweight, fast and agile. They almost fly like a laserpointer Big Grin

Urban and Andreas, you're spot on. I thought that flying such a small craft like this would lack somewhere but in fact is insanely fun and I can't feel that I'm missing a lot from my 5''. Other advantages are gear logistics and flying spots. My flying spots will grow a lot I guess. Also I'm really surprised with the vtx signal and the motors power.

5inch is just different, on a 5inch its needed to carry the momentum by throttle, smaller lightweight quads wont need that.
micros are crazy fast and nice in performance, 5inch as the best is a myth, peoples like jb does still care this myth in the community.
carry the momentum makes the handling more forgiving, less agile, its more easy to stear a 5inch than a powerfull micro.
5inch can provide more efficiency on high speed and higher topend, a micro wont be able to fly 60mph for a minute, throw limitation of tiny batteries quality.

what motors and esc do you use?
you might need to try a 3s 300mah battery to get into the more crazy micro performance :-)

The momentum stuff was one of the things that surprised me. The slingshot and throws that we do on the 5'' is great, it feels good and smooth but I guess you can mimick that with a micro if you don't cut the throtle like on 5'', is just a different type of flying.
What I noticed more is the pendulum effect. I have a tyro99 with bottom mounted battery and I don't notice it like on the toothpick, but again, I just put a couple of packs in it, maybe it's just a matter o getting used to the flying style.

In terms of speed, for me it's really enough, the toothpick is pretty agile and powerful like you said  Big Grin It's still quiet, easy to carry, changing batteries, charging them and so on... logistically is also a bonus for me.

The quad is not a custom quad, is the Fullspeed Toothpick, it has the 1103 motors and I don't know what is the ESCs board.

Yeah, the batteries are not crazy on performance, just 2s 450mah ministar, but they seem to handle about 4 minute flight time really well.
Just waiting for 4 more of them. The next ones will be 3s just to try the power  Big Grin

The main disadvantage of the quad is of course the impossibility of carrying a HD camera, but that doesn't bother me.

xD i broke obe of these frames Undecided on a 1s settup, 1102 11500kv, hq 65mm triblades; that build
was a lot of fun.

i beleive 1103 is a bit to small for a heavy rotor, but on 2s a lightweight 65mm triblade https://www.hqprop.com/hq-durable-prop-t...p0228.html
or
https://www.hqprop.com/hq-durable-prop-t...p0271.html
could be nice.

I only tried the stock gemfan bi-blade props. I ordered a bunch of them, still waiting. The props are push thru.
They seem a bit flimsy, they bend a lot, although they work fine Big Grin
