To buy or not to buy...
#1
Morning all,

Hope everyone is well...

This is my first post here, so bear with.

I'm an RC Heli pilot, but I'm planning to dip my toe into the world of quadcopters with a view (pun intended) of getting into the world of FPV.

I currently have two helis, a Trex 450 Pro DFC and also a Trex 550e DFC. I'm planning to stick the 450 up for sale to help fund a quad build.

There are a few queries I have regarding the build, and some dilemmas that I hope you guys can help me with.

Firstly, I use a Spektrum radio (DX6i) currently with my Helis, and whilst I know the Taranis is an incredibly scalable and excellent piece of kit, i'd rather NOT have to buy a new radio, just yet. So, do you guys know if there are any receivers that have PPM that can be used with a Spektrum radio? As I don't fancy having ALL of the wires for every channel going from the FC to RX.

Also, to save some money I thought I could use the batteries from my 450 heli, Turnigy 3S 2200mah lipos. Though the more I read, the more I'm starting to realise that these are just going to be too heavy for a 250 frame... Or are they? You tell me...

As of now, I've purchased a couple of things.

Frame -
ZMR 250 V2 with PDB and LED's
Other bits -
Step down Voltage regulator (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231750382434)

And below are the things I'm thinking about buying, would appreciate it if you guys could sanity check it for me and offer some alternatives if possible.

My goal for this build is to be cheap, but not bargain basement rubbish. And scaleable for future expansion.

ESCs-
LittleBee 20A
Motors -
DYS 1806 2300KV
FC -
Acro Naze32 Rev 5
Props -
HQ5045 Bullnose
FPV Camera-
PZ0420M but I cannot find this anywhere in the UK?! Can anyone recommend me a retailer or alternative please
VTX -
Aomway 200mw 32ch 5.8ghz - Again, out of stock anywhere, but heard really good things about it.
Antennas (VTX/VRX)
Aomway Cloverleaf SMA
VRX
Quanum Auto Scan (Hobbyking)
Goggles
Quanum V1 (Hobbyking)
Receiver -
No idea yet, help! Needs PPM and work with Spektrum Radio please.
Battery -
Intending to run 4S in future so would prefer to buy them now instead of wasting on 3S then having to change, recommend please.

Look forward to hearing back from all of you guys, super exited!

Cheers!
Dan

I use a 4 channel Orange RX receiver (http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/sto...iver_.html) it has 6 channels when using a PPM signal. It works perfectly with my DX6i.
Current quad: ZMR 250 / DYS SE2205 / Littlebee 20A ESCs / Drone Lab 1500 4S / Naze32 Rev5 / BF 2.7.1
FPV: Runcam Skyplus / Aomway 200mw VTX / Fatshark DomV1

Brilliant, thanks for the info.

Don't happen to have a spare for sale do you? Or does anyone?

Don't fancy having to ship from International.

Cheers!

I got mine from eBay in the UK, cost me about £12.

Battery - I quite like the Dronelab 1500mah 4S ... that's what i am using now.
PZ0420M, only place you can get that would be Runcam or Securitycamera2000... both are great sellers based in China, use them all the time. I think SC2000 offer free shipping too, takes 10 days to arrive in the UK.

What do you think to the rest of the build?

Hi,

Don't buy quanum v1, buy the v2 instead. I have both and v2 are much better in everything. Better resolution, easier to place the components and more confortable. They really worth the price difference.

My one recommendation having a ZMRV2 with PDB, assembled it tends to get heavy. The DYS 1806 might make the build feel sluggish. You might want to get something beefier for this build - to prolong the fun. Something like Cobras 22xx or the new TMotor F40 or EMAX RS2205.

The PDB also makes adding MinimOSD very easy and they are so cheap now - http://www.banggood.com/CRIUS-MAVLink-OS...54938.html
Setup is a breeze with Oscar's blog Smile http://blog.oscarliang.net/minimosd-micr...-pid-rssi/
