Time for goggles
#1
So... next up I want to make my experience with sims a little more engaged...

I know that I am going to go down this path eventually either way. I want to be sure that I am not buying something that I will wish I upgraded later. For example while I currently don't have a build or even anything toy-grade I went straight for the Tranais X9D+ because... well whatever and I had a big tax return (I didn't mean to lend Uncle Sam any money but it happened)... and I haven't regretted a moment of it. If anything I am more excited about where things will go once I have my first build.

Now it's time to decide on goggles... obviously I see the fat sharks around constantly... So the Dominator V3 vs the HD3... The difference is only $150 or so... but for some reason a $500 pricetag crosses a psychological limit for me. I could potentially see using something with HD compatible for more than just this future hobby of mine so either way it'll likely get extra use... but... are there extra things I should be considering?

As a complete noob, I am aware that I am chasing down what is "popular" and I did the same when I raced cars... I stared with (falken) Azenis tires and really did great with those... later I got a set of (hankook) RS3s that made my Azenis look like hard plastic rather than grippy rubber... It was a learning experience... however... tires are consumables in racing... From everything I read transmitter and goggles are the one thing that you should get right early on.

Am I going down the wrong path entirely by thinking about just these 2 models? Should I be thinking about something else all together?

Also hopefully I have the right section of the forum for this. Let me know if I put it in the wrong spot.

I saw a review of the eachine  @ $140, one of the highest resolution 'screen style headset' for FPV available. The VRD2 and the EV800 both about $70-$100 and have a removable screen with a thread for mounting outside of the headset on a tripod. I thought this is a nice option for glasses wearers incase you can't get a comfortable fit or can't manage to arrange a screen position that you can focus on...

I too have settled on the Eachine Goggles 2. I was going to go with the VR D2s but they seem to have had some issues early on when using the dvr (better now)and no audio. The EG2s seems promising and i can add DVR easy later on.
Also if you like DIY and looking like a cyborg the Quanum V2s are good and u can build them exactly to your needs

I hadn't considered the box style. I might think about it but I'd really prefer to have something I could toss in a suitcase and hop on a plane with easily. The Echines look way too bulky. They'd probably take up a quarter of the bag and even then with all that foam I'd be worried about them getting broken while the baggage handlers toss my stuff around.

Admittedly though. 1080p resolution is a huge plus. and I've never seen it that affordable anywhere else. So I might consider both lol.

This is just my opinion, but this is what seemed most important to me, and what I wanted in my goggles (I wear glasses so I felt limited to box styles)
1. Diversity (x2 antennas) (really cleans up video and can extend range )
2. 40ch rx with raceband (I can race with friends or in competitions)
3. Audio (im a racer @ heart and MUST hear my source of power lol)
4. DVR (either included or easily added later on) (several benefits)

Those are my personal wants. Now I havent researched the fatshark styles as much so I cant really recommend atm, but if you list your "wants/needs" Im sure some experienced folks will have some good suggestions.
Good luck!

Good points, and I think your list helps for what I need to do in my #2

My list:
 1. Must be able to connect to my computer for use with simulators.
 2. Must be able to scale as my interests and skill levels scale.
 3. More pixels=More Better.
 4. Audio doesn't sound like a bad idea.
 5. Preferably compact.
In addition to the Fatsharks I've started looking at reviews of the Skyzones. With the widescreen view might be a nice option and they do come a little more ready to go than the Fatsharks do it seems.
