Things that make you smile...
#1
1. Finally being able to fit a proper CCD camera into your favourite brushless micro quad.

Is that the swift mini or the split? I ended up getting the runcam 3 before they went out but I think the split is such a cool idea.

I'm pretty sure that's the swift mini, the problem with putting the split on a micro is that the separate board for the split has 30.5mm spaced mounting holes which are most common on larger frames... That, and the complaint about having the props in view on the widescreen DVR footage, which you may not be able to see in the 4:3 aspect ratio of the FPV feed.

Other things that make me smile - unseen spending almost as much on his builds as he does on cable ties! Big Grin

Yeah, it's just the Swift Micro, there really is no room for the Split's board in my stack, particularly now that I've rebuilt the Atom with 20mm boards.

Compared to the little CMOS camera I had in there before, the picture quality is so much better.

that looks so cool Smile might need a bit more camera angle ? Smile
Runcam is about to release a new version of the Micro swift with voltage OSD Smile so that would make it even better..

How are those carbon fibre props perform? don't they break in crashes?

You're right, I do need a little more angle on the camera, but I need to refine the design on my camera mount to make that possible. The standard mount and others that I found are all too tall to fit in the 22.5mm height that I have to play with.

The Maytech carbon fibre props are great! They are very durable and I've only broken a couple of them and that was in really bad crashes. They give a bit more thrust than the plastic 3020 props and are quieter as well. I could always hear the plastic ones fluttering in tight turns, but these are rock solid. They're even fairly well balanced out of the bag. From the last 8 that I bought, there were just a couple of them that needed a little bit of tape to make them perfectly balanced.

That is the atom frame correct? How do you like it? Also did it come with the top plate like that? The ones I've seen have a plastic canopy on top.

The frame is the version 1 of the Atom 122. They added the canopy in the second version.

It is hands down my favourite brushless micro. With the 1105 motors and a 3S 450mA/h battery, I can easily get five minutes in the air. The Atom is very fast and responsive.

It's quite a challenging build to get everything in the frame and one disadvantage with the original design is that the flight controller stack is effectively used as structure. Circuit boards are not designed to cope with shearing stresses like you get in a crash and you need to use a FC with a nice thick PCB if you want it to last. As it is, I've rebuilt this one with a micro 4-in-1 ESC and flight controller that have a 20mm mounting pattern and this makes it lighter and protects the electronics from being damaged in a crash.

The frame itself is as tough as any other frame that Amattan makes. Top quality!
