I thought I should introduce myself properly On my first thread I did a little introduction of myself, but I thought it's time for a proper one ^^ My name is Martin, I am from Troisdorf Germany and I am 28 Years old. I always loved RC stuff, but i never really got into the hobby, because it was not exactly what I was looking for. Since I love flying helicopters in Videogames [ first time in the "Desert Combat" Mod for Battlefield 1942 when i was ca. 14-15 ] I really got a hang for controls of helicopter like things. Of course that doesn't mean I can fly an FPV Quad right off the bat, but I think I will really get into it. A little Video I recorded in BF4 to test the Recording Software I work as an electrical engineer focused on Radio Communication (TETRA Standard)/CCTV/Networks. About myself I would say that I am really skilled in my profession. I designed several PCB's by myself [picture below] and also handsoldered the SMT components. At work I have really high end professional Equipment on Hand like Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, HF Signal generators etc. each worth 5 digits of money units ^^ Electronics is really a passion of me as you can see in this thread on a german forum where you can see the progress of the Tube Amp I am building for my brother. Sadly of course everything is in german, but pictures tell more than a 1000 words Things I want to do here in the Future: - My first quad Build log [30% of my parts already arrived] - More build Logs xD - Modding Tutorials like this one I already did [ Going to do one about Kylin Vision Goggles DVR-Mod and Video Out ] - Videos about my flying skill progress I totally forgot to mention that I have two brothers both older than me. Oldest one just moved to the UK to work as an engineer for McLaren to develop their new sports car. And guess what? He develops the carbon parts/manufacturing process so guess who will design my own quad frames once he has settled in in addition to that my middle brother has his Masters Degree in Product development and is working in a research facility close by and is specialized CAD Design with everything that comes with it. He is currently designing a Duke Engine as a sterling motor to put on his table. All three of us inherited the urge to build something from our father and of course it always has to be something special. So I think I will fit in here in this forum, I am really god damn pumped to build my first quad! Ah yeah forgot, I can also use a good quality Filament 3D Printer at work ^^ Already printed a camera mount that will fit on my Martian II Frame Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 Martin, don't know if I did before, but here's properly welcoming you to the forum!! (Even though you're an "old hand" around here now.) Can't wait to see your build - and looking forward to more good stuff! • Posts: 2,286 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,527 in 995 posts Likes Given: 1,881 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 72 Great intro Martin and a warm welcome from me! You certainly have the kind of background that will make your journey into the multirotor world easier. Having access to test equipment that some of us would drool over really helps as well when things go wrong. I'll make do with my ageing Tektronix TDS220 storage 'scope and my RFExplorer 6G spectrum analyser and signal generator. The love of creating things is a large part of the fun for me in this hobby and it's always a great feeling when something that you have built yourself takes to the air for the first time. Your first build will certainly be the first of many. • Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 Hey Martin, Glad to see more background on you and of course you're already a part of the group so rather than a welcome: Hey, how is it going! I definitely look forward to seeing some of those build logs as I am sure you're going to be building some high-tech beasts. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 125 Threads: 12 Likes Received: 86 in 45 posts Likes Given: 52 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 8 (07-Apr-2017, 09:25 AM)sloscotty Wrote: Martin, don't know if I did before, but here's properly welcoming you to the forum!! That's some good gear you have already for private purposes, saw the RFExplorer on Mr.Steeles Video, thought it was a pretty neat equipment. Yeah I think so too ,FPV will Burn a lot of my €€€ xD (07-Apr-2017, 10:37 AM)Carl.Vegas Wrote: Hey Martin, Glad to see more background on you and of course you're already a part of the group so rather than a welcome: Hey, how is it going! Fine how about u mate ^^ I am excited to see if I can put some spins into building techniques that might not have been done before regarding mounting, wiring etc. I actually am thinking about designing my own PDB, but that's a far fetched goal. I guess with that kind of capability you could build just about whatever you wanted and do a bit of experimenting... Of course with a hobby in this level of development any innovation could influence the whole population in an instant so who knows... maybe if you come up with some good ideas you could end up influencing hundreds or thousands of other pilots... Hopefully if you come up with something brilliant you're either willing to sell it or put it out ala open_source! carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 2,286 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,527 in 995 posts Likes Given: 1,881 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 72 The RFExplorer with the 6GHz module is a superb tool for the price. I even managed to find an excellent directional coupler for the 5.8GHz range with over 30db directivity for a reasonable price on eBay so I'm well set up for checking out FPV antennas in a much more scientific way than just seeing how hot the transmitter gets. • Posts: 2,410 Threads: 136 Likes Received: 1,790 in 1,052 posts Likes Given: 3,302 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 50 Welcome! • Posts: 195 Threads: 8 Likes Received: 86 in 54 posts Likes Given: 79 Joined: Aug 2016 Reputation: 6 Hey there and welcome! Just some food for thought - how hard can it be to design an FC or some ESCs if you do electronics for living and have access to all that high tech equipment at work?? • Posts: 227 Threads: 35 Likes Received: 202 in 116 posts Likes Given: 278 Joined: Mar 2017 Reputation: 5 Hallo mein Lieber, welcome from Switzerland too!! :o) I've lived 8 years close to Cologne/Köln, so I'm familiar with the open and investigative culture of yours - looking very much forward to your contributions, can't wait! There's definitely room for improvement, e.g. taking the braking part into consideration, and with the evolution of Lipos/Accumulators, guys like you could have the tools to put it into practice.. *hint, hint.. ;-) So looking forward to seeing you whopping someone's b-ass, E • Posts: 2,286 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,527 in 995 posts Likes Given: 1,881 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 72 (07-Apr-2017, 07:14 PM)campagnium Wrote: ... and with the evolution of Lipos ... Yeah was actually really hard research work to get my hands on the Plans from 1962 in readable format. And after that I had to research which caps had to be rated for 400V and which manufacturer to choose because of their Frequency behaviour etc. FC design should be really easy since I wouldn't do the program and I already know the chip. I could Rip any design and rearrange it. I really want to take a look into how the FCs are arranged but I guess people are already pushing them to their limit. Open minded people here all around. P.S. my brother lived in Wetzikon for several years when he worked for BMW Sauber F1 Love the swiss lifestyle, even though some people I met were anti german. Gonna take my Kylin Vision Goggles with me today and FPV watch some local pilots Next week i gonna mod my goggles and add a Video Out BNC Connector. And in the future i might add a DVR.
