My real name is Scotty (yep, my mother tacked the "y" on at birth).

I am nearly old enough to retire (and will very soon), so that makes me the "old guy" here so far....(Sorry Steve, Chris - got you both beat, I'm afraid). I live with 2 dogs and have a girlfriend that I spend a lot of time with. I'm a former math/cs teacher who now works full-time in IT tech support.

I'd been building and flying RC fixed wing for several years (though I did build a 450 quad for aerial photography about 3 years ago). Then the FAA sprung their little "surprise" on US pilots, and I refused to go along, so I started looking into other ways to "legally" get my RC fix. I discovered the world of FPV quads and found out quickly it was possible to build a high-performance quad under 250 grams.

And that's what lead me here (by way of Oscar's blog - naturally).

So far, I've been building more than flying, but that's OK. It's challenging and very satisfying to build and learn - and the flying is slowly getting there. When I retire in March, you will see a lot more videos from me. (Plus I've got a very nice, light HD cam on the way that will work on my small quads.)

As far as my small quads go - I've discovered that these things handle the wind around here very well.

AND, when you are in the cockpit - size doesn't matter. Big Grin

Way to go Scotty.. You old dog You.

Envious of you close to retiring, I guess in part I am almost there myself, spending less time AT work, and working more from home , which allows more free time for flying .

Soooooo, out with it...65? as that is the official retiring age here for men.

Hey folks,

I won't tell you my name because its classified... oh wait did I register with Facebook? Damn!

I'm a librarian by education and webmaster by trade. I'm switching jobs currently and that means my wallet won't squeal that much since december Big Grin

I'm 32, married, have a 6-years old son, we adopted a shelter dog in January.

Before quadcopters I never had experience with any serious RC stuff or electronics. I started my addiction in december 2014 when I ordered Eachine CG023 nano - I said to myself if I won't get bored by it in two months, I can go crazy with my first build. Soon a ZMR250 got born and after a few months of LOS flying I got intoFPV. Love freestyle (obviously ;p) and sometimes just chilling in air, but that doesn't last long since there's too much interesting things closer to the ground  Tongue

I am also guilty of getting Grisha0 addicted to miniquads hehe.

I love both building and flying. As to which one I prefer mostly depends on the mood - sometimes I can go 2-3 weeks without getting in the air while tinkering with something, sometimes I'd like to fly every day and totally don't care about building/rebuilding/tuning/whatever Big Grin

I used to play airsoft for a few years, but after serious back injury during a game I backed out of it.

Cheers,
Name Classified  Wink
Find me on Youtube and Instagram. I currently fly: DRC Aura, NOX5R, Minimalist 112 and drive a scrap RC car

Almost.  Actually full retirement age here is 66, but I will be retiring early. (I only have one house payment left... Big Grin   and I hate to spend another summer working when I don't have to.  If I lived in AU, I would retire right now!  You guys gotta be coming up on Springtime soon.  Cool )

BTW, I suspect that some of that "free time for flying" is on the clock...............
