Techone FPV Wing 900, the mix between the wing and the racer
#1
The FPV Techone Wing 900 is a mix between the world of racing and the FPV wings. The kit here is a complete kit with the engine.
unboxing

The box is 65 cm long, 30 cm wide and 7 cm high.

This is a complete kit with motor, servos, linkage and mounting accessories.

The engine is a F80 in 2500KV home T-motor.

Mounting
For installation I have followed the manufacturer's video. The glue used was the epoxy 5 minutes. The installation took about an hour max for large assembly.

For part of the chassis, I had a few surprises.
First, we have in hand a very fine carbon species and not very solid. I cracked several times some pins just by opening and closing the top plate.
The wing structure seems solid.

the structure of the magnets were walking in as they were loose from the supplier. Be careful to retest the meaning of the magnets before the fix because they have opposite directions depending on their position in or out.

As set up FPV, I selected a Runcam Eagle V1 and a 25/200 / 600mW to minimize costs if a crash would be inserted in the part of Maiden. I added after Maiden micro-OSD to the tension.

In the end I intend to install a Runcam split (with lens GoPro) and a selectable VTX 25/200 / 600mW.

The ESC is one provided with a welded above BEC which delivers continuous 6v. I powered the rx D4R FrSky (it supports 3.5v to 10v) with it. For the rest I installed a mini Bec PDB with 5V. The mini PDB will handle powering the FPV kit.

In the 3rd flight, slammed the PDB (too cheap), taking with it the VTX, I'll replace it with another model.
The propeller is provided Lumenier 5 * 5 * 3R you keep on the side because it gives no result with the F80. Simple Two-blade 5 * 5 has clearly made the difference.

Video
Flight 3s then 4'00 flight 4s.

ps: The flight area for the maiden is unoccupied zoning. I did not have fun playing the high-wire (+ 30m) because the model is not designed for this. The vehicles passing there are people who learn to drive [Image: 1f609.svg]
Conclusion
The S900 is a wing for the Racing, that's clear! It will jouette in 4S and provide a lot of fun to pilots. The structure is 3 parts is a good idea and will certainly play a role fuse in case of crash. For now, I have not crashed the wing, I can not demonstrate the robustness and ease of operation.
The LIPO be easily movable to allow you to get the best balance in relation to the center of gravity.
It can be considered as a second wing, provided you have already practiced had before. A novice from the world of FPV Racing may get lost for sure!
Costs are under control and free you to equip on your own, it does not exceed the end of the bar € 200.
It would be interesting to organize races here, in Europe, this type of wing and develop some models, keeping the same idea of three elements.

From what I saw of Bruce Simpson's review of this wing, both the wings and the elevons are far too flexible and this ruins the flight characteristics if you actually start using the power that the F80 motor can put out.

Did you also find this to be a problem?

I have one of these on the way to me. After they dropped the price, I thought it was worth a try.

I have also ordered some 75 micron laminating film and some carbon fibre spars. Together, they should be work to make the wing and elevons stiff enough.

By the way, I don't see any of the images in your post.

My TechOne FPV 900 wing arrived today and managed to survive the journey.

Interestingly, they appear to have taken Bruce Simpson's criticism about the wings seriously. On mine, they have added an 8mm square carbon box section and jailed the end of it into some new plywood mountings for the wing tips. The result is very rigid indeed and they've increased the torsional strength quite dramatically.

They've also replaced the ESC with the BEC shrunk on top of it with appears to be a redesigned T-Motor 45A BLHeli_S ESC that includes an onboard switched mode BEC.

How nice to see a company taking criticism of a product to heart and making changes to address that criticism!

A big Thumbs Up  to TechOne!

(and apologies for the soft focus on my pictures - I think I need a new phone)

It does indeed look good. I think I'll still laminate the wings to give them some better long term durability and a smoother surface, but I certainly won't be needing to add any carbon fibre spars.

Hopefully I can get it built and finished before the weather here gets too cold.

Still not seeing the pictures Pim, I created an http://imgur.com account to upload my photos and then link to them there. It seems to work perfectly, if I right click the picture from the album and 'copy link address.'

I'm thinking of moving all my photos over to a server that I control. At the moment, I use Photobucket, and have had a paid account there for years. Unfortunately, I now have until Dec 31 2018 to make alternative arrangements. After that date, the only Photobucket plan that will allow users to embed their photos on forums and other external sites costs $500 per year if you pay monthly or $400 per year if you pay for a whole year up front.

Something tells me that Photobucket won't be around for long after that date!

If I hover my mouse over where the images should be, I see a URL like:

If you edit your post to place

Code:

tags around the URL, then as long as your web server allows the images to be fetched, they should appear here as well.
