TBS Powercube 5V supply
#1
Hi Everyone, quick question please. I've been looking at the Powercube Manual and it stated something that raises some concerns for me.

I'm looking at getting the FrSky Taranis TX. It comes with the D4R-II Receiver which states there is no solution if you have lines in your video other than powering the receiver from a separate 5V supply! Should I be concerned and if so, how would I power it with this separate 5V?

I use the powercube with a X4R-SB, tbs unify pro VTx, and TBS Triumph Antenna and I have no issues or lines in my video. I think the best method would be to set it up and try it first. If there's an issue with lines in the video signal you know where to look first.

I have no issues with lines on the TBS PowerCube. I'm using an X4R RX and a Hawkeye 200mw VTX. I do however recommend going with the TBS video components since the default jumper for the VTX BEC only puts 5V which isn't enough for most other brands.

To jump it to 12 you have to take the entire cube apart and then unsolder a tiny resistor that is jumping the voltage pads.

Also just had one of the ESCs fail on it and TBS customer support hasn't responded to my ticket in over a week. Pretty disappointed in the cube and TBS in general.

Another option is to use a 5V Step-Down Voltage Regulator (at least 600mA) which is available pretty much everywhere.

That's interesting. Do you have any ideas as to why the ESC failed?

I know TBS is super swamped with the Vendetta shipments, but a week is a long time for no reply. If you have the money, you may want to go ahead and order an ESC and have it shipped in the meantime while you wait for TBS to respond. If it was a faulty ESC they will almost certainly reimburse you for the cost.

not sure why it failed, I wasn't even pushing it when it dropped out of the air. I was actually flying indoors. I got ahold of another cube and swapped out the ESC . Good for now but still waiting on a reply from TBS.
