TaranisPlus Not Recognized on PC
#1
Firmware: 2.1.9
STM32 Bootloader installed

OpenTX Companion v. 2.2.0

******

OpenTX Companion does not see my Taranis, but I can see STM32 Bootloader in my Devices and Drivers menu when it's plugged in.

I've spent 4 hours on this today, and I cannot figure it out.

Just looking for some insight.  Thanks!

I am actually tying to figure this out as well for my Q X7. Haven't played with it much yet as I am used to setting up TXs manually. But OpenTX is a whole new animal for me Wink
Last I got was a popup saying use Zadig and thats where I left off. Thinking

Clarification:

My computer recognizes my Taranis as a joystick, but when in bootloader mode it does not connect a pathway to the Open TX Companion - version 2.1, or 2.2.

I have had success accessing my x9D ONLY TWICE in many attempts since I got it in December 2016.  Both of those successes were after MANY HOURS of hair pulling, and I was so shocked, excited and relieved when it worked that I forgot to take detailed notes as to what I did.

I remember there being a process that required me to either direct the Companion to the correct pathway, or Zadig - but I have not been able to reproduce it, or find any guidance online.

Apparently, Zadig is not required with newer model Taranises.  I did have Zadig installed, though - before I uninstalled it to see if that solved my issue.  It didn't.

All of the tutorials on this process are for "easy breazy" experiences, and do not address any potential problems, or provide trouble shooting discussions.  They just assume it will all work like the last tutorial that preceded the one they're making.

I do solemnly swear that if/when I get this resolved, I will make a trouble shooting tutorial and share with the world Smile

Ive had the same issues with my X9D Plus.  I think I got it to work when I had the transmitter powered OFF not On.  I havent updated past 2.1.9 yet.

I am using OpenTX Companion 2.2.0N364 my X7 has I believe 2.2.0N218 (factory default)
Works as a joystick fine for sims as well. But says opentx cannot open dfu capable usb device (powered off) or not found (powered on)

It flies my quad great so I havent really pressed the issue lol. Ill send a bug report later tonight (Getting ready for father daughter dance atm)

Unfortunately, OpenTX companion doesn't see my x9D when powered off, either.

I want to do PID tuning on my Taranis, and eventually through my OSD, but if I can't update it, then I'm stuck in the stone ages using a computer to tune  Cry Poop

With it powered off, it should show up in your device manager as STM32BootLoader.

It does but the problem is that OpenTX Companion fails to recognize that it's there. Says it can not open DFU compatible USB device.

From what I am reading, it sounds like this isn't the problem... but part of me has to ask... Those of you having trouble are pulling the (left-right) trims in to the middle before turning it on and plugging it in right?

If I try flashing the firmware on mine with it in bootloader mode (Three finger boogy), the next power on is very depressing as nothing comes up on the screen, no sounds, and then bootloader mode no longer comes up either.

The only way I have found around it is to take the battery and SD card out; then plug it into the computer; attempt to flash it again. (Which fails)
Save the firmware(rename it with a smaller file name) onto the SD card in the firmware folder (with the appropriate sd card contents).
Put the SD card, battery back in.  Boots fine into the old firmware.
Navigate to the firmware folder and flash the bootloader using that firmware you just loaded.
Power off the transmitter, then do the three finger boogy again to get into bootloader mode.
Flash the same firmware you just used to update the bootloader.

I cant for the life of me get it to work with the companion software.

I figured as much... I just thought it might be worth a shot. I did a lot of fighting with my Taranis when I first got it, but we're friends now... I just remember it being one of the times that we made up and cooperated a little Wink

Thanks bro! I refreshed myself this morning on this X7 Guide from Alex Datos after reading that.

Place Tx in Bootloader mode and THEN plug in usb!

Worked like a charm! Before I tried to enter bootloader while it was already plugged in. Now I just have more to learn ROFL setting up and actually using Companion.

That used to get me all the time... It would get me when trying to use it as an USB controller too.

Yeah for me to use it as a joystick I have to power on first normally before I plug in USB.

Same.

In fact I've taken to turning the power back off after plugging in so that I can avoid forgetting to turn it off (once USB is connected it stays on until unplugged)
