Taranis Problem
#1
Hello,
I just installed the new M9 gimbles in my Taranis

When I look into the KISS GUI, my roll channel does not go 1000 to 2000 anymore, I can use my sub trim to get the centers of roll ,pitch and yaw to be at 1500, but my roll goes from 1010 (full left stick) to 1987 (full right stick)

My min and max settings for my channels are set to 100, I would need to be able to beyond 100 to get the left and right side of my roll channel to be at 1000 (full left) and 2000 (full right)

The quad appears tp run fine on the bench (without props)

am I worried abolut nothing, or do I need to get resolved before I fly ?

Thanks
Danny Z

Have you done a stick calibration? If not, go watch Joshua Bardwells video about the topic.

After doing the calibration, you can fine tune the middle and end points in one of the menus on the taranis, I can remember which as I don't have the taranis here, but I think it is menu 5 or 6

I did re-calibrate the sticks,
I was still not able to achieve the 1000 - 2000 end points, On page 2 of the menu page, there is a check bot for "extended limits"
I checked that box and was able to set the end points to 1000 - 2000, but this morning when I powered up the quad , I noticed that roll is stuck at 1855, the taranis shows the roll position curser way off to the right, and any stick movemenr relevent to roll will not show up in the data outputs page of the KISS GUI

Im stuck....

thanks
Danny Z

should have never put the new gimbles in...................

Quick update,
Turned the taranis on and off several times, the roll stick now is centered on the radio display.

Kiss data output roll command now showing 1006 (full left) and 1988-1992 (full right)

Quick hover test in the back yard shows no bad tendencies, mostly hovering, and some low power punchs

One interesting thing to note, is that the quad is hovering between 1/4 & 1/2 stick, not a big deal to me, but not sure if it is something I need to worry about ?

The resolution in the sticks is definitely noticeable, for the better
but still not comfortable with the 1000-20000 issue on roll,
I dont like not knowing why Smile

The offset can be adjusted in the menu I was talking about above Smile

Just got back from a test fllight,
The M9 gimbles , in my opinion are JUNK
I followed the instructions to the letter, did several hover tests, a couple slow flights, then as soon as I moved into a moderate flight mode, full right roll into the ground, one of my motor bells actually ripped out the c clip and ruined the bearing race as it was ripped out.

I will be sending these back and installing my stock ones, at least they are reliable

Thank you for the help

Hmm, sounds like you got a faulty gimbal or something. I now a couple of guys and myself who have done it and haven't had any problems with it.

I thought the same thing, maybe a bad gimble , it's definitely possible.

Problem is human nature being what it is, Im not sure I want to take a chance again, although the same thing can be said of anything that fails out of the box.

Well see.........

not sure what Im going to do at this moment, most likely at a minimum, send my radio to a service center and have it checked out once I reinstall the stock gimbles, it's bad enough that I could wreck or lose a quad, but it something happened and it hit a person, I could not live with that........................

Update,
Got home this afternoon, put the stock gimbals back in.......................end to end points 1000-2000.........no adjustment needed

Both of the M9 gimbals are bad, my yaw end points were off as well....................

I happene to be running a data logger at the time of the last crash, the spectrum analyzer gyro roll trace showed some very weird data, while the noise was low (I had set pitch and roll notch filters) it was not what I am used to seeing (most of the time the top of of the noise field looks like hair that is short but fuzzy.

The data trace of the last flight was VERY, VERY symmetrical, TOO SYMMETRICAL IMHO, and it was a perfect shape, almost like a heartbeat, don't exactly know what it means, but I would be willing to bet it is related.

If you have a blackbox log you can check your RC commands for abnormal stick movement when it happened.

Yup,
The RC Commands definitely show an unintended full "right" command.

You can clearly see at the moment of "right" roll. I am still at 90% throttle.

I am by no means the best pilot, but I fly well enough to know that if I am going to do a full roll or pitch command, at a minimum, I roll back to 50% throttle or less (If not zero throttle).

As I think back now, I should have figured something was potentially wrong. When I powered up the radio, in the morning, and I noticed that the "curser" in the Taranis display was not centered, it was way off to the right.

I ran the stick calibration again, and it appeared ok................guess not
