 oooooh pretty!

I am not sure how I missed this thread before but this is definitely a good looking build. I've been seriously considering building a Talon based on a combination of "the hype" and Campy's recommendation. Have you had the chance to fly it at speed yet? I'd be really interested in hearing if it flies as well as it seems like it should.

Also remember that 120A is prospective 'real world' draw rather a than bench test, so it could end up damaging the packs...

If you are considering some cheap replacements....

I mentioned it elsewhere to CarlVegas, but I stumbled on this thread at RCGroups discussing indestructible quads Black Label batteries. I haven't finished reading the thread, but I got up to page 19 and have not yet found a single complaint. Page 39 now and only 1 or 2 complaints, all of which had a replacement sent, any delays in shipping get shipping refunded. There is testing of these done in Josh Bardwell's 'Group 4' battery tests and another comparison test with amp draws at 80A and 120A. The guy running the show is Ke Xu (aka maruchan1636 on RCG) he is based in New York, apparently a hobbyist himself and quit his job to work on Indestructible Quads full time.

Carl said he may order 1 or 2 of these so keep an ear out for the LiPo Killah's verdict..!

So far I've managed to have an R-Line die on me (I don't think it was my flying, I think it was some sort of failure), but I haven't killed any of the black-labels.

ROFL unless you're me... There are times when a punchout just isn't enough even if the quad was unbelievably fast. Don't be like me though kids... The habit of extended time at full throttle is one that is not easy to recover from (I know, I'm still working to unlearn it... for the record it's something I picked up in simulators, so be careful with all-out in simulator practice!). The key to not getting hooked, is not learning how differently the quad turns at full throttle and how to steer and put the horizon even correctly... shoot... maybe I should build myself a quad on a talon Doh

Sadly my FC had some serious problems. The dreaded yaw twitch made it un-flyable at anything above 30% throttle. This was with soft mounting and adding the 1000uF cap, yaw P at 1 and every other fix I read about at the betaflight page and others. I have ordered a Betaflight F4 board and some new X-Racer Quadrant blheli 32 25A esc's as temporary replacements to get it back in the air ASAP. Once I rebuild it I'll let you know how it goes. At least I have the opportunity to build it cleaner next time. I saw a great idea of using heat shrink on the arms to hold the wires in place and thought it was brilliant!

Here is the blackbox gyro info and the analyzer for each axis.

That's bad news.

Can you upload the actual black box log?

Sure thing, here it is. The link goes to my google drive.

Wow! That really is extreme!

It also seems restricted to a very narrow RPM band as well. Were you able to soft mount the flight controller? (Even though it probably won't be that effective seeing as the battery connects directly to the flight controller.)

Your experience confirms my reluctance to buy flight controllers with these new 32KHz capable IMU chips. There really do seem to be considerable problems with flight controllers that use them.

Yes, I tried various softmount configurations using up to 8 of the m3 bobbins. I even left the FC "floating".
No dice. I will see if the FC can be salvaged on some rainy day, but for now I'll just install a replacement and go fly.

So the new FC arrived and was installed. Running a BetaFlight F4 F405 now. Will get some gopro footage of the maiden and let you all know how it goes finally. Wish me luck!

Ok, so the talon maiden was with default PIDs, zero tuning and I'd have to say it handles amazingly well. Turns are almost telepathic now. Much better than my martian 3 after the last tuning session. It's not the lightest, at about 600g with a gopro session but it feels much lighter, even better than the martian 3 when it was a 4". I still need to get used to the thrust though, tried a power loop the same way I do with the martian 3, and ended up way too high still.

Here is the maiden. Warning, I am the worst videographer ever. You have been warned!

Great news! The tune sounds really good and I don't see any unwanted behaviour in the video.
