Subscription Boxes
#1
So I kinda wanted to take a pole of sorts before I subscribed to a mini quad box service. Which is better between Drone Drop, Kwad Box, and FPV Crate? I've heard FPV Crate is the best though.

I have looked at several of these and ultimately decided that it was not worth it for me. I figured I would end up with a bunch of stuff that I did not really need. But now that I have it I should buy the rest of the stuff needed to use the stuff I didn't need Sad
I seemed like a trap to me.
Think of the cost over a year, and what you could buy with that.

But some people just like surprises Big Grin

Just my 2 cents

I'm in the UK so there aren't as many choices as in the US but there are a few suppliers here who do them (or at least did when i last looked), but I formed the same opinion as Scott. Unless you are constantly building / breaking stuff and don't care for any particular manufacturer's parts then I can see a lot of the items just piling up in the "spares" box which seems a bit of a waste, so I decided it wasn't really worth it, for me at least. I thought it was better to just put any money aside that I would spend on a mystery box and use it for specific stuff I actually want and know that I would definitely make use of.

Thank you guys so much for weighing in, I really appreciate it! The reason why I am considering buying a box is because I'm very new to the hobby atm. I would really like to build up a spares box and build Franken quads. Getting new parts that I've never used before such as a 4n1 esc or other products seems like it would be a good way to try out new ways of building

I agree with Snow and Scott, I'd rather save that subscription money and buy just what I need than having a bunch of stuff around of no use.

None.

As a business person in another life, I avoid subscription boxes like the plague. With that said, if they were at least to narrow down what you get to, say for example, a selected size class, then I *might* think about. End of the day, subscription business models are hugely profitable for a reason - and it isn't because it makes customers super happy lol.

I bought a one-off box from UnmannedTech in the UK, once. I don't know if sales were disappointing or if it was just too much of a pain in the arse, but they don't do them any more. Of the stuff that came in there I've used some bits (a VTX, good double-sided tape), have plans for a few others (an FC and some conformal coating), and won't bother with the rest (LEDs). Also there were props, which I would try out if I wasn't so lazy.

All-in-all it didn't seem like a bad deal, but buying one every month? I'd never use the stuff - I tend to just stick with the gear I have and replace the stuff when I need to. For gear magpies I guess it becomes more worthwhile.

The ground is for dead people.
