Still Learning...

2nd time out with goggles

More park Flying

Trying not to crash in my yard.
I have a small yard and there is not a lot of room to learn to fly FPV.  I have crashed hundreds of times and lost count of the amount of propellers Ive smashed. One piece of advice I've learned is cover up any plants that you don't want to shred.  Very sorry for the Honey Bush and the countless others that I've mangled in my attempts to fly.

One tip for you NimhBot.

Do not cover any plants with anything in an attempt not to fly into them, This only brings attention to the things you are trying to avoid and will automatically make the quad fly into them, All Flight Controllers have " a crash into my fav plants, trees, people CHIP " .  Try and trick your Flight Controller by pretending you do not care about the plants and the FC will seek out other targets of opportunity. Big Grin

And for gods sake expect the unexpected, Ninja Trees are breeding like wild fire and have populated almost every nation with one purpose in mind, Bringing down  your quads.  Sneaky Bastards.

Hey, but good job with your progress..Keep at it.

Nice job!  I am much the same situation as you.  Heavily wooded lot (albeit it a large lot) and the azaleas and pine trees keep trying to bring me down.....very successfully I might add.  I don't have goggles, but an 8" LCD.  I wanted to make sure I could actually fly FPV before I invested in goggles.  I have tried flying FPV with limited success and currently I am flying LOS.  I am slowly getting better and I will switch back to FPV before long.  I am told that flying FPV for the most part is easier then LOS just because of your perspective....hmmmmm............we'll see.  Keep at it!!

Thanks for all the words of encouragement everyone.  I have been keeping at it.
I started flying just LOS in Acro mode about 5 or 6 months ago. Ive never flown with any stabilization. Perhaps I'm learning the hard way.
Started with just the basic ZMR250 quad kit you can find online.  Added a FPV kit after about 2 months.  I got a 7 inch LCD screen and mounted it to the controller. I figured this would be the best way...
It was odd but I got the hang of it after many props and plants down. When I got my Quantum V2 goggles I felt like I was back to square one.  It was so hard to fly.  I nearly gave up.  I kept at it and eventually stopped hitting plants every time.
Just this weekend I got the tilt of my FPV camera right and was able to fly around the park near my place pretty fast.
For the record I have broken 2 GoPro cameras and countless propellers.  Also I got my first carbon fiber sliver in my hand the other day. Damn they hurt.
Here is a video of me flying in the park after I got the camera angle right.  Hope you like it... Big Grin

great job NimhBot, to me FPV is kind of like learning to ride a bike. you're nervous at first, even though you know the training wheels are there. then one day it just clicks and you figure out it's all about the balance. next thing you know you're riding like the wind. keep up the good work bro.

Thanks JimmyLe813. I do agree that it just clicks one day. FPV was super hard for me to learn at first after flying LOS for months of learning. (I learned to fly on a hubsan x4 micro quad before I built my zmr250). After days and days of pratice I could fly it from one side of my yard and land it in the hammock in the other side. I could have given up any number of times after many failures. Then I just started to have less crashes and more time flying. I still crash plenty but it's so fun I just fly, crash, fix, repeat.
