Standing or Seated
#1
Okay, this may be a dumb question, and ultimately, it may come down to personal preferences, but do most of you sit or stand while flying?

The reason I ask is that at the AMA club I belong to, and where they coerced me into investing in the FPV-Quad area (yeah, let's go with that Big Grin ), almost every pilot was sitting down, and when talking to them, they said you want to be sitting while flying otherwise you might get dizzy or disoriented. So from the beginning I was always sitting. I also notice that when watching the DRL or any other organized FPV race, they are all sitting.

However, when I watch freestyle videos such as those from Rotor Riot, they all stand when flying. I have tried standing and do not have a major problem with it, but it's not as comfortable as sitting. I guess I'm wondering if there's an advantage to one method over the other.

Ironically, when I'm flying my planes LOS, I can't sit, I have to stand!

Thanks!
Bob

I stand.

When I started flying LOS helicopters when I was younger, I needed to stand, and so it just became common practice to stand while flying. A few months ago when I built my first FPV quad and transitioned to FPV flying, I naturally decided to stand. I did notice the first few flights I was moving around a little, especially when I started doing rolls and flips, but a week later and my brain was used to the FPV view and I had no problem standing.

Do what feels comfortable for you, I don't think there are any advantages of either.

I normally sit but when I began I was always standing.
It's really a matter of what you are used to.

When standing you get the urge to fall over sometimes in the beginning
When you practice you learn to separate what you see and the urge for your body to correct this.
I think most people who you see standing are standing because they have to travel on foot and don't feel like dragging around a foldable chair?
For me sitting takes the "body" out of the equation, you just sit, relax and fly without having to prevent your body from correcting visual things which don't need correcting.

I am usually standing, but only because, as Fint pointed out, I usually have a small walk and 2 kids with me Wink so it's just easier to leave the chair behind.
With that said, on some flights, when the adrenaline is pumping I'll get some jitters in my legs. Widening my stance helps with that, but a chair is much more relaxed and focused on nothing but your flight.
So when I get the chance to compete, I'll be sitting. But when it's time for fun and practice, leave the chair behind... you can carry more quads and lipos that way Wink Tongue

Me too, I have to stand when flying LOS Smile
For FPV I can do both, and it depends on the situation. There is no right or wrong Smile it's good to train yourself to be able to do both, in case you don't have a chair to sit on Smile But I definitely feel more comfortable sitting down...
