I thought I'd post something a bit different on here than the usual forum topics. This is probably more applicable to people in the UK, USA and Australia who are seen as the general targets for these campaigns.
Like everyone probably does, I detest online scammers who are the scum of the earth and I've been following a few scam baiters on YouTube for some time including a guy in the UK who is a bit more than just a baiter. He's a network security genius / vigilante who goes by the alias of "Jim Browning" and when a scammer tries to defraud him, he actually hacks back into the networks of the scammer and takes control of their own equipment
There was recently a programme on one of the UK BBC TV channel featuring his work called "Panorama: Spying On The Scammers". This was his most successful hack to date whereby he actually managed to gain access not only to the scammers computers, but also to their entire CCTV network and telephony systems. It makes for a riveting watch and gives you an unprecedented view into exactly how these scumbags operate. Hopefully no-one on here or their friends/relatives have ever been caught up in such a scam but people need to be aware of these type of fraudsters.
As a result of this guy's efforts, the ringleader who was making in the region of 400,000+ dollars a month from conning people in the UK, USA and Australia out of money is now in custody having been denied bail and is awaiting trial (news article HERE).
People outside the UK probably won't be able to watch the whole programme HERE due to regional restrictions (unless you have a VPN), but there's a trailer for the same below...
Jim has also since published parts 1 & 2 of a 4-part series on his YouTube channel that goes into all the details of that particular scam / reverse hack which is quite fascinating...
